Undocumented immigrants paid an effective federal income tax rate of 5.27% in 2022.

That means they paid a higher effective tax rate than 5 of the richest Americans…and a higher effective tax rate than 55 mega corporations.

So let me ask you: who are the real freeloaders?

A tragic story of how ICE has changed this family forever with clear-eyed analysis from @austinkocher.com
When he showed up to an immigration meeting in Memphis, Kasper Eriksen thought he was on the verge of becoming a citizen.

Then ICE arrested the Mississippi father of four, not even giving him a chance to say goodbye to his wife, whisking him away to a prison.

Absolutely.
If the U.S. government is going to take the position that, once removed from the United States, folks can’t be brought back, then it sure seems to me that federal courts should be reflexively and categorically barring *all* removals until they’re 100 percent certain that the removals are lawful.

“Those issues are not the drivers of this decision, as you know.
Moreover, as you and your team undoubtedly learned during the research that led you to rely on a 57-year-old district court case.”

Isn’t that um the point?
As I told the Wall Street Journal, by dropping corruption charges against NYC Mayor Eric Adams, DOJ sends the message that public officials who support Trump’s agenda will get out of jail free.
Dismissal of Eric Adams Case Represents Departure for DOJ
The U-turn has sent shock waves through the U.S. attorney’s office in Manhattan, known for its independence from the Justice Department.

10th Amendment who dis?
No it hasn’t. The federal government filed a civil suit—echoing the same theory of liability on which the first Trump administration *lost* in most of the courts to hear it.

To say DOJ “filed charges” is to deliberately make it sound more significant and threatening than it actually is.
Pam Bondi announces the DOJ has "filed charges against the state of New York, Kathy Hochul, Letitia James, and Mark Schroeder"

Great analysis by JP on judicial appointments —
My debut piece on @ballsandstrikes.org. On his way out, Mitch McConnell attempts to reach new levels of hypocrisy. I think he succeeded!
I'm sorry but Mitch McConnell accusing literally anyone of "playing politics" with the federal judiciary is so funny. I have to believe he's in on the joke and candidly I respect it ballsandstrikes.org/nominations/...

Shameful. And let’s not forget how government officials referred to it as “Operation Wetback” only a couple of decades after passing legislation that targeted Mexican immigrants by criminalizing entry into the U.S. Our national memory is so short and ill-informed.
Indeed. When they rounded up the Japanese Americans, myself and my family included, for internment during WWII out of fear over Japanese spies and saboteurs, two thirds of us were U.S. citizens.

Don’t think it won’t happen again when they come for the “undocumented.”
