I love creating extensive lore that really won't ever be relevant.
Night Era (3600-3763) Early veneration of The Saint took many forms, some even using her true name, now lost to history. Some saw her as a deity tied to destruction, who had cast down the Machine government for the sins it had committed. Others saw her as a manifestation of a true monotheistic Goddess, who had come to Xia IV to show them the error of their ways, much like a form of harsh parenting. Few of these cults gained much traction, as most of the population was more focused on survival, and hatred of The Saint was widespread in the time shortly after her crusade. Rarely mentioned in any Church teachings is the fact that there is no evidence whatsoever that The Saint herself believed in the Communal Soul. First Light Era (3763-3900) The emergence of Krintinix Pemrisi, 5th daughter of The Saint, and her long lost proof of her descendance lit a fire in the hearts of many. Many of those who were followers of the old cults flocked to Krintinix’s side, gladly following the child of their deity. By 3780, the Church of the Saint of the New Dawn was widespread in the Xia system, with hundreds of thousands finding hope in the promise of a New Dawn. It is unclear when the concept of the Communal Soul first came to be, but it is thought to have been sometime during this era. Most of the core tenets of the Church formed during First Light, Artificial intelligence, mind uploading, extreme genetic modification, and invasive cybernetics were considered abhorrent. Prosthetics, treatment of autoimmune diseases, cancers, and other medical means of ‘modification’ were still seen as sometimes necessary, though they were frowned upon. Penalties to those faithful who damaged the purity of the Communal Soul were mostly monetary, or based in reputation. Brightening Era (3900-4550) The Brightening was heralded by the reign of Florintok Pemrisi, 10th daughter of The Saint, who brought many reforms to Church doctrine. When, exactly, is the attempt to capture this moon to take place?” Lolanene tilted her head in thought, “Uh, can we trust you with that info? I mean, y’ just captured three of us ‘n’ forced the other two t’ murder someone for ya under threat of execution by th’ feds.” “I was bluffing, my dear. I have no contacts in that gaggle of misguided body purist fools. I would love to have them off my moon. I just saw that you needed a little extra push to prove your loyalty. And thus, I pushed!” She grinned. “I’m not sure how murdering someone because you lied to us about what would happen proves anything.” Maria said.

“All I’m sayin’ is that if y’ got a problem with killin’ people, don’t be part ‘a’ th’ leadership of a fuckin’ violent revolution. Go plant some fuckin’ flowers ‘r’ some shit.” “Calmav.” Maria stood directly in front of them, trapping them against the wall, “Stop. Talking.” Their eyes began to glow red, and they easily shoved Maria gently backward, “I’ll say what I want. I ain’t afraid ‘a’ you.” They walked away without another word. Maria sighed as she turned around, “What did you ever see in them?” Lolanene shrugged, “They’re nicer’n that, sometimes. They knew Nether better’n anybody else I’ve met out here. Maybe it was just th’ familiarity there, I dunno. Maybe I’m just easily swayed by an attractive face.”

Very happy with this very silly thing I just wrote.
Maria carefully slid the back door open very slightly, showing her the street she’d seen before. The troops had changed positions, and her HUD updated accordingly. There was an overturned vending machine of some kind just outside the door, perfect cover if she could get to it. The only problem would be opening the door undetected. She waited until none of the troopers were looking in her direction, then opened the door slightly more. She repeated the action several times over the course of ten minutes, opening the door so gradually the troopers failed to notice.

Running a revolutionary army is busy work, it turns out.” Bilogi smiled, “You’re tellin’ me! I spend more time workin’ on ships these days than anything else. Gonna be good to see Ryani. I know some folks’ve got bad blood toward him for the whole thing he was part of, but I don’t see it that way. He’s a good guy, just did what he thought was right in the moment. Sometimes that thing don’t turn out to be as right as you thought.” “Prob’ly best not t’ bring it up regardless when we see ‘im. Just sayin’.” Lolanene said. “Oh I ain’t plannin’ on it, Lola, don’t worry ‘bout it!”

Today I learned that baby Dubia roaches are actually fucking precious.
They just look like tiny round stubby adult roaches, bumbling around in the dirt.
I learned this because uhhh, turns out I fed a pregnant roach to my tarantula.

Maria dislikes secrets, and does her best to keep as few as necessary. It's odd, given she's spent most of her life in rebellions that are by their nature, fairly secretive. A lot of her job, when it doesn't involve violence, is the discovery of the enemy's secrets.

“Dr. Stasiak?” She said, stunned at actually knowing the person. “The one and only.” Dr. Stasiak replied with a smirk, “You’ve been a very good girl tonight, Clarissa.” Why did that feel so… incredible? That should have been… a really weird thing for her to have said, shouldn’t it? “I- I have?” Clarissa asked, extremely confused. “You have indeed, my dear. I had to think quickly with the boy, but you carried out my instructions flawlessly. Honestly I took you for more of a loner, wasn’t expecting that interruption to your programming.” Clarissa stammered in confusion, “I- Y-you what? Instructions? I don’t- That- What?” Dr. Stasiak smiled warmly, “You’re so very cute, Clarissa. When I detected your thoughts about your silly little boyfriend, I started altering them. I need him out of the way, you see. And when he actually showed up, well, I simply had no choice but to take direct action.” “Y-you… My thoughts? A-are you… the reason I-” The doctor nodded, “I am. Your appointment earlier was… let’s just say more than an eye exam. I primed your brain for my programming software, which is running on the computer embedded within your glasses. I’ve been altering your thought patterns ever since you put them on.”

Niarith nodded, “Feds call it by their designation, XJ-18 III. But Maria’s people call it Hearthea.” “Y’know, I don’t know why it never occurred to me that primitives might have their own names for their planets.” Elmitriana said. She blushed with embarrassment. Hernelli groaned in frustration, “Elly, I’ve told you, ‘primitive’ is a demeaning term used to infantilize and remove agency from the non space-faring. I know you’re new to all this, but please, don’t use that term.” She turned to Niarith, “I’m sorry, Nia, Elly isn’t the best with all this just yet. But she’ll get there.” Elmitriana nodded, “Right, right. Sorry. I am trying, I promise.” She smiled nervously. “Progress is progress.” Niarith shrugged. Niarith had a sudden realization, “Uh, Mom? You’ve just uh… You’ve come to a blacklisted system to talk to one of the most wanted criminals in FIC space. Do you… realize what that means?” “We’ve lost our jobs and would be arrested if we re-enter FIC controlled space? Yes, I’m well aware, dear. I knew what I was getting into when I set out to see you.” She smiled warmly.
