Very happy with this very silly thing I just wrote.
Maria carefully slid the back door open very slightly, showing her the street she’d seen before. The troops had changed positions, and her HUD updated accordingly. There was an overturned vending machine of some kind just outside the door, perfect cover if she could get to it. The only problem would be opening the door undetected. She waited until none of the troopers were looking in her direction, then opened the door slightly more. She repeated the action several times over the course of ten minutes, opening the door so gradually the troopers failed to notice.

“Dr. Stasiak?” She said, stunned at actually knowing the person. “The one and only.” Dr. Stasiak replied with a smirk, “You’ve been a very good girl tonight, Clarissa.” Why did that feel so… incredible? That should have been… a really weird thing for her to have said, shouldn’t it? “I- I have?” Clarissa asked, extremely confused. “You have indeed, my dear. I had to think quickly with the boy, but you carried out my instructions flawlessly. Honestly I took you for more of a loner, wasn’t expecting that interruption to your programming.” Clarissa stammered in confusion, “I- Y-you what? Instructions? I don’t- That- What?” Dr. Stasiak smiled warmly, “You’re so very cute, Clarissa. When I detected your thoughts about your silly little boyfriend, I started altering them. I need him out of the way, you see. And when he actually showed up, well, I simply had no choice but to take direct action.” “Y-you… My thoughts? A-are you… the reason I-” The doctor nodded, “I am. Your appointment earlier was… let’s just say more than an eye exam. I primed your brain for my programming software, which is running on the computer embedded within your glasses. I’ve been altering your thought patterns ever since you put them on.”

They all have a distinct voice in my head, and I do my best to make it come through in the text.
This is a pretty good example of the variety of speaking styles my characters can have.

But Maria’s people call it Hearthea.” “Y’know, I don’t know why it never occurred to me that primitives might have their own names for their planets.” Elmitriana said. She blushed with embarrassment. Hernelli groaned in frustration, “Elly, I’ve told you, ‘primitive’ is a demeaning term used to infantilize and remove agency from the non space-faring. I know you’re new to all this, but please, don’t use that term.” She turned to Niarith, “I’m sorry, Nia, Elly isn’t the best with all this just yet. But she’ll get there.” Elmitriana nodded, “Right, right. Sorry. I am trying, I promise.” She smiled nervously. “Progress is progress.” Niarith shrugged. Niarith had a sudden realization, “Uh, Mom? You’ve just uh… You’ve come to a blacklisted system to talk to one of the most wanted criminals in FIC space. Do you… realize what that means?” “We’ve lost our jobs and would be arrested if we re-enter FIC controlled space? Yes, I’m well aware, dear. I knew what I was getting into when I set out to see you.” She smiled warmly.

Wish I were goin’ with ya, but we can't all go runnin’ off t’ paradise.” She laughed. “I’m quite a fan of the cold, actually.” Maria said, “It keeps me alert.” “‘Ria, th’ last thing you need is t’ be more alert.” Lolanene giggled. “Lola, I was attacked by _ just a few weeks ago. I think my paranoia is at least somewhat justified.” Niarith gently laced her fingers around Maria’s own, “Good to know some things never change.” She said, leaning against Maria.

Tenets of the Church of the Saint of the New Dawn: 1. Humanity has a communal soul, shared by all humans that have ever existed. 2. The human body is a physical manifestation of the communal soul. 3. To modify a human body, whether through machine or medical means is to damage the communal soul. 4. To damage the communal soul is to become an abomination, a collection of ruined shreds of divinity. 5. Abominations are to be forcibly purified by any means that do not further modify the body, including death. 6. Genetic modification is a false promise, a machine in disguise. It must be purged wherever found. 7. Artificial Intelligence is an insult to the divinity of the communal soul, and must be purged wherever found.

Fun times....
The opulent courtyard was anything but, now. A massive crater filled the space where the brick Church symbol had been. That seemed to have been the explosion that filled the air with dust. Bodies, both IIF and FIC, as well as several civilians, lay scattered amongst the debris. Ship engines, as well as distant snaps, and small gusts of wind were the only sounds. Columns of smoke rose into the sky in almost every direction, and small wisps of burning ash drifted down, landing amongst the broken bodies and shattered brick.

Ladiziar was already in motion, sprinting toward the door, sliding between the legs of one of the guards, coming up behind him and taking him down to the floor. Before he could recover, she kicked his rifle out of his hands and grabbed his pistol out of its holster. Another second later, the other two guards were dead. Ladiziar kept firm hold of the third, “Where’s your boss off to?” She held the man’s own pistol to his head. “Executive Vault! Lowest level of the building! Oh Dawn give me hope don’t fucking kill me, I-” Ladiziar pulled the trigger and a quiet snap followed by a flash of light ended both the man’s sentence, and his life.

“You know what I did. I used various techniques, subliminals, hypnosis, brainwashing, drugs, to create a sort of alter-ego. A compartmentalized personality blindly loyal to me.” Maria lifted Helolak by the shirt and slammed him back down on the table, “You’re stalling, you Void-taken motherfucker! Get to the point. That didn’t work, we got away. So how and why was she still sending you reports with that name you gave her?!” She struggled not to just extend her claws and end the man. “Aagh, okay, fuck, okay! The conditioning I had put into her was intensive, more than she’d be able to break by sheer force of will, or even that fucking thing inside her. It created a persona, a separate entity in her mind. That’s Agent Marengo. Niarith loses control, often. She’s just programmed to not let you know it’s happening. Any time she’s been on the VRnet, part of what she’s been doing has been sending me the very reports you now have.” He was breathing heavily in a mixture of pain, fear, and anger. Maria could think of only one other question, “Why?”

Request funding increase of 4%. As we reach the end of Phase Delta, costs are increasing. Surveillance of Subject is proceeding as planned. Civilian and Military assets are in place and prepared for eventual deployment. Subject and associates are progressing along expected path, but success has been greater than intended. Suggest further assets be deployed to Subject’s home system and embedded in IIF itself and local criminal gang for disruption purposes. Such disruption will only take effect after Phase One begins, but the payoff will be worth it nonetheless. Deployment of mechanized assets in likely target systems is ongoing. With completion of the device last month, Phase Delta is nearing its end. It’s likely Phase One will begin within a matter of months at most. We just need the right timing in the right target system.

She walked silently over to the table, and stood in front of it, and Lucia. She placed her hands on the table, and looked Lucia directly in the eyes. “Hello there, miss. My name is Darlinna Mechanicane. I’m the head security officer on this Waystation.” Her emotionless mask loosened briefly, as grief showed on her features. “And now… the only security officer on this Waystation. Do you know where you are, miss?” Lucia stared blankly for several seconds, confused as to what was happening. “N-no, I don’t. Where am I? What’s happening? Where’s Niarith?” Officer Mechanicane walked away from the table, toward the opaque panel on the wall. She pressed a finger to it, and an image appeared on it. It was Niarith’s ship, landed in a large metal room Lucia didn’t recognize. The perspective was from somewhere up on a wall, and a doorway could be seen in the lower left of the picture. Lucia had thought it was simply an image, until three people ran through the doorway, and stared at the ship. One of them was clearly Officer Mechanicane. Lucia watched the display as Officer Mechanicane made her way over to a console and spoke into a microphone. There was no sound, so Lucia didn’t know what was said. After a few seconds, the ship’s hatch opened, and a bright teal light could be seen emanating from inside. The real Officer Mechanicane tapped a symbol on the display and the view changed. It was now lower down, seemingly above the doorway seen in the last shot. Lucia could see… herself. Standing in the airlock of Niarith’s ship, naked. The glow behind her pulsed, her eyes began to glow, and she spoke. Again, Lucia did not know what she’d said. The video paused, and as the security officer tapped another symbol, zoomed in on Lucia. Officer Mechanicane turned to face Lucia again. “This is you, correct?” “Yes, it is, but… I have no memory of this. When did this happen?” “6 hours ago. That first night we met, you told me that there is no magic. You weren’t entirely correct. There is magic, not in terms of ensnaring minds or calling upon the elements, but between people. That force that brings us together, that bonds us when everything in the galaxy tries to tear us apart. Love is that magic. And I promise that as long as I live, in whatever form that takes, I will never allow that magic to fade. Maria blushed and smiled, “Y-yeah I just… did what I had to.” “Oh come on, don’t be so modest! You’re a hero, Maria.” Kinekial placed a hand on Maria’s. Maria looked down at Kinekial’s hand on hers, she felt so soft. Maria hadn’t realized just how little she could feel before. The sensors in her new skin were nearly the same as her human nerves had been, aside from the continued inability to feel temperature. She smiled again, but moved her hand away. “I don’t know about that… but… thank you, Kinekial.” “The things you’ve done, nobody has accomplished what you have. You started this entire movement, Maria. There’s a reason we risked coming right up to the FIC’s capital system to rescue you. You’re a hero. An icon. You represent hope.” She stood up, bringing her face to face with Maria. She stepped closer, “I admire that, Maria.” She leaned closer, inches from Maria’s face, “I admire you.” Maria nervously backed away a few inches, "I-I have a girlfriend, I can't-" Kinekial placed a finger on Maria's faceplate, over her mouth, "Shhhh, just listen." Maria heard a snapping sound next to her left auditory sensor, and everything became blurry. Buzzing filled her mind, making it hard to think. Kinekial was speaking, she was replying, but it was hard to understand, harder to care. It felt good to just sit and listen. To let the buzzing take hold over her thoughts. She didn't need to think…

Trees lined the path, but none were on it. It extended far into the distance, and the trail Maria was following continued down it. Green foliage marked the sides of the path, extending down onto it, forming a thin yet densely packed carpet of green undergrowth. The light of this planet’s star shone through the small openings in the forest canopy, creating golden rays of light shining down to the ground at irregular intervals. Maria stared in awe for a few moments. She stepped over the remnants of the plant barrier and stepped onto the path. Branches and leaves crunched under her weight, and she felt she was doing something she wasn’t supposed to. She felt unwelcome. This path wasn’t for her. She looked up. Hundreds of the very same fanged plant creatures writhed amongst each other near the top of the canopy. How she hadn’t noticed that particular detail before, she wasn’t sure. The feeling of trespassing was heightened when every single one of the strange things suddenly turned to her in unison. They had no eyes, but they had sensed her somehow. All movement stopped. Maria didn’t move, neither did the things in the trees. They stood that way for a long while, Maria staring up at them, the things… not staring… but perceiving her.

They’re gone.” Nikrianth showed no reaction to the news, and instead turned her attention to Wintusa, “Asteroid platforms, are any of them in range?” The older woman worked her console, not answering. “Zarnelian! Asteroid platforms!” Nikrianth shouted. “Keep your pants on, kid. This ain’t a job for one person.” Another few seconds passed, “One in range, angle’s off, but we might get a glancing blow on one of ‘em.” Nikrianth nodded, “Do it. Ryani, keep bringing us around to port.”

Got something a bit different today!
This is from one of my NSFW short stories, this one's about a vampire doing vampire things to a cute girl.
This story was kind of an experiment, to see if I could write a story without narration of any kind, using the protagonist's thoughts instead.
She has a really pretty giggle… “Aw, I’m sorry to hear that, hon. That’s really rude of her. But it’s okay, sweetie. I’m glad to keep you company.” “O-oh, okay… That’s… uhm.. That’s nice of you.” Oh gosh oh geez… “May I order you a drink? After all, you’re new here, it’s only polite.” Gosh even behind the mask I can tell her smile is pretty. “Oh uhm… I- I don’t uh… I don’t drink… Alcohol that is, I uhm.
