The truth is, the government has been shutting down since January. Mass illegal firings, withholding funds, censorship, corruption. Making this fight about medicaid subsidies is fine. But no democrat should be voting to fund a dictatorship.

Call your dems and tell them to hold the line

The New Yorker asked me “how bad” today’s Supreme Court ruling was. I boiled it down to one paragraph:

I'm struggling to find work due to multiple disabilities including long covid, I'm broke, my fridge is empty, and I don't know how I'm going to pay my bills.

If you feel like making an old trans lesbian's life a little better, my Paypal/cashapp/venmo info is in my bio.

Scrolling through all of the lovely illustrations in the #kidlitartpostcard feed just made me super sleepy, for some reason. Maybe because it’s so soothing. Definitely recommend if you need a timeline cleanse.

And I hope THIS TIME for sure there won't be political bullshittery I'm not in control of on my show.

The enshittification of everything comes with a right-wing profit margin that is unbelievably high.

It's actual work, like hours of my day, to NOT participate in the right wing ad market.

I've joked a bunch of times about how much fucking money I'd make if I rebranded far right and started espousing hate.

It's so fucking lucrative to be a right wing shill you have no idea.

But I'm not. Anyway.

Guns are the number 1 cause of death in children and we don’t talk about it. The only logical conclusion is that GOP hates children and families.

Weeks after a gunman opened fire on the CDC, House GOP 2026 budget proposes a ban on federally-funded research aimed at developing policies to prevent gun violence. The research resumed in 2020 after a two-decade freeze.

This ‘blue states closed schools too long’ narrative is becoming increasingly entrenched in the Polite Center but it’s arguable at best.

Republican states had far more deaths during COVID and their students have roughly comparable learning loss.
I've never seen such a disconnect between Dem elected/staff/consultants and actual Dem voters.

The latter understand what's going on.

The former are awash in right-wing brainrot, hence @schatz.bsky.social blaming COVID mitigation and BLM marches for the GOP's wanton destruction of public health.

This rings true to things I’ve witnessed and read. We cannot blame individuals for systematic failures but we should be able to acknowledge group based status behaviors as reinforcing those systemic failures.
My kids took the bus, but some days I needed to pick them up. I quickly realized that if I arrived 10 minutes after dismissal I would sail through the line. When I passed this tip to another mom, she said “but then they’ll be one of the last kids picked up.” We did not become mom friends.

If you're 60, 69.1% of all job growth since your birth occurred under Democratic administrations.

If you're 45, that number is 74.7%.

If you're under 28, the number is 100%.

Happy Labor Day.

Listen, for seven years now I’ve been in a neverending cyclical multinational fight with people mad that I call the obsession with blondness everyday eugenics. It keeps the white nationalist repertoire alive for times such as these. Just constant rage wars about this for almost a decade.
I've had so many fights with people about this. Their sparkly eugenics is still eugenics.

We are literally becoming a police and military state under this administration, when chalk at a memorial is treated like a crime, it’s not about “safety.” It’s about this administration having complete control on the American people.

♥️ Music activates the part of the brain that dementia destroys last. It’s one of the few things that can make a person with dementia happy or calm, because the familiarity and emotions the music evokes overrides the constant fear and anxiety they experience. It feels like “home”.

Old Soviet joke for today:

A man walks into a newsstand every day, looks around, and leaves.

After a long time of this, the owner says “Can I help you find something?”

“I’m looking for the obituaries.”

“The obituaries are in the back of the newspaper, comrade.”

“Not the one I’m looking for.”

I will never get over how a handful of tech bros set billions of dollars on fire to build a plagiarism machine that doesn't work and will destroy human society when they could have used a fraction of that money to fund a new golden age of creativity and knowledge.
