I want to do more blogging than social media posting, and the awesome @leaflet.pub is giving me (another) incentive to try. "The only problem with Microsoft is they just have no taste. They have absolutely no taste. And I don't mean that in a small way, I mean that in a big way, in the sense that they don't think of original ideas, and they don't bring much culture into their products." - Steve Jobs
It’s impressive how it’s not in Microsoft’s DNA to build good consumer products. They have access to the same tech as ChatGPT for building Copilot yet while ChatGPT has 1.4B downloads, Copilot has 95M. 😬
A bunch of influencers shilling Copilot isn’t going to get people to suddenly start using it.

Microsoft Bets on Influencers Like Alix Earle to Close the Gap With ChatGPT
Microsoft Corp., eager to boost downloads of its Copilot chatbot, has recruited some of the most popular influencers in America to push a message to young consumers that might be summed up as: Our AI ...

When my kids were young, I told myself I'd support them in whatever they wanted to do, but prayed it wouldn't be getting into anime. Now, though, something even worse than that has happened: My sixteen year old, taking AP Government, cheerfully announced, "Reading SCOTUS cases is a lot of fun!"

I imagine this must work on some people, but as a phishing attempt, it's hobbled by the fact that its core claim is proven false by the very fact that I'm able to see the phishing attempt.

Nothing in this is surprising, but I still I guess have a difficult time imagining the subjective experience of being as fully stupid as Trump seems to be. It's like he operates without metacognitive awareness. www.politico.com/news/2025/11...

It's a bad sign for the regime that the popular resistance is taking on a strong, and seemingly out of character, nationalist core, positioning itself as the defender of the nation against the usurpers—and succeeding with that message. And now it's turning into renewed city(ist?) identities, too.

josh blackman contends that the equal protection clause allows discrimination against unpopular groups out of pure animus. I’ll just observe that the Court did not need Justice Kennedy to reach the opposite conclusion generations ago.

My old next door neighbor was until recently a Durbin senior staffer and I can't tell you how many times over the last ten months I texted her with some version of "WTF is he doing?!"
Really glad that Durbin is retiring bc he is one of the most notable examples of someone that just straight up does not get the stakes of the current political era

My twelve year olds have informed me that "because all the parents started saying it," the 6/7 meme "is now ruined." I hope you guys are happy.

I’m sorry, but a goofy looking guy who grew up a privileged son of a pediatrician and has a phd in social theory from the university of Goethe and started in tech by investing an inheritance left to him by his grandfather talking about being a “dude” is very, very funny to me.

Bo French has a house someone else could occupy, and that someone else would be sure to contribute more value to America than Bo French, who is a stain on the country and its culture. So that's one towards the hundred million right there.

All of these morons are convinced that the only mistake they made in Trump 1.0 was not being lawless, violent, repressive, and ruthless enough.
And now they're indulging that fantasy, imagining that if they hurt enough ppl horribly enough, everyone will instantly surrender unconditionally to them.

The whole GOP shutdown strategy is hoping that sheer force of propaganda can convince the public that things getting worse does not reflect badly on the people in charge of the government, and that hurting America more will get Democrats to acquiesce to the Trump admin hurting America in other ways.
Sean Duffy: "We have a number of people who want to get home for the holidays, they want to see their family. Listen, many of them are not going to be able to get on an airplane."

It is incredible that the richest man in the world is also the most pathetic man in the world.
Musk used Grok to animate Sydney Sweeney to make her say “you are so cringe.”
Not only does it look and sound awful, I don’t think he understands how embarrassing this is for him.

I very much wish I liked Cory Doctorow's novels. From a "what's this book about?" standpoint, they ought to 100% be my jam. But every time I try to read one I rediscover that they feel unintentionally YA. His characters talk and act like a precocious 14 year old imagines adults talk and act.

Modern pickup trucks are really just giant family SUVs except that the groceries in the trunk get rained on.
The bumper says 'rugged working man'.
But the cargo bed says ‘cosplay builder with soft hands’.
Time to ban these fragile-man-mobiles from our cities.

People wildly overestimate the economic security experienced by past generations. There's no period in American history where significant numbers of young people were just handed high paying jobs. Nostalgia for a time that never existed is a huge problem.
Why Nikki Haley’s son went radical: His generation inherited insecurity.
I profile Nalin Haley, a fascinating young man, who I believe will likely play an important role in conservative politics in years to come.
