Pause for three minutes and soak up the grace of this man.

Earlier today, the father of three U.S. Marines, Narciso Barranco, spoke publicly for the first time after being pinned to the ground and savagely punched by ICE agents while they arrested the landscaper outside the IHOP where he worked.

Was reading this in the siddur margins this evening...

"There is an evil which most of us condone and are even guilty of: indifference to evil...
Indifference to evil is more insidious than evil itself; it is more universal, more contagious, more dangerous."

More energy to condemn Mamdani for seeking economic justice than for Cuomo’s 13 credible sexual abuse cases

We should not be forced to beg, forced to bring our own air purifiers and masks to healthcare settings in order to prevent needless infection as we attempt to get care— “do no harm” is meaningless when seeking help means maskless healthcare workers. We should not be getting sicker at the doctors.

Since healthcare workers largely refuse to mask, hospital acquired Covid is still a very serious risk for many of us.

It also carries a 10% mortality rate.

No one should have to choose between care and Covid.

My guide to avoiding Covid in hospital (the tips apply to other public spaces too!)
How to Stay Covid Safe When in Hospital

Vance is here to grab content he can post on X, using your replies. Starve the beast.
This is a vital message: one of the larger reasons BlueSky is refreshingly free of alt-right shitlords is because in the early days we made a gentleperson’s agreement to starve these fuckos out and it worked. No likes, no quotes, no engagement. They got bored and left. Please keep the Old Ways.
Vice-President JD Vance confirms he has joined BlueSky.

This should be illegal
Despite FDA approval of the first HIV prevention shot, Gilead priced it at over $28,000 for two injections. This blocks access and will cost lives. The "Make America Healthy Again" party has defended this profiteering for decades. This is what voting against your own interests looks like.

The irony is that institutionalizing people with disabilities is often more expensive than giving them the tools to live independently.

Tangentially related, the more I think about it, the more I’m convinced we need universal basic income.

A “friend” just told me I couldn’t visit any more until I was “better”. That they would prefer not to deal with sick in their home.

Chronic illness is just that. It’s chronic. We don’t “get better”.

When you say something like this, you’re excluding us from your life entirely.

What do you call humans being kidnapped and sent to another country to be imprisoned in shackles and forced to perform intense physical labor while living in horrid conditions under the threat of daily physical violence and rape?

Open a history book. You can do it. I believe in you.

It’s time to mask back up (N95 or better please!)

Resistance is easier when you have your health.

Coping with fascism, climate change, supply chain disruptions & food shortages will be easier if you have your health.

Disabled people need your solidarity. Protect us & protect yourself. Mask up

In 15 yrs of reporting, I've never had so many health & biomed researchers & outreach orgs tell me they're afraid to talk w/press or barred from speaking bc of new comms policies.

I understand the fear of losing funds. I don't know if silence does more harm than good. If you can speak up, pls do.

People think being small will keep them safe.

It won't.

The reason we know who Mahmoud Kahlil is is because he was loud. Do you think he's the only person the administration has tried to disappear? He's just one of the first we've noticed
I was interviewed this week for a major US news show. My interviewer asked me why so few of my colleagues are willing to talk.

It’s not just fear of losing funding, but of being singled out by a regime that wants to purge scientists from society.

That’s why I do speak out. I wish more people would

Today I lost an NIH grant training clinicians to do research about intimate partner violence with perinatal women.

More women are murdered in the perinatal period than die of obstetric complications.

I didn't just lose a grant. We lost an entire cohort of people building careers to prevent that.
