Beginning to wonder if the Nobel Peace Prize can ever recover from this.

The most tedious people on Twitter have just discovered today that Türkiye has changed its name. I don't watch a lot of TV adverts (God invented the fastforward button for a reason) but I feel there's been a load of tourist ads with the new spelling. Do reactionaries not pay attention to anything?

If you're a Reform supporter and think men and heterosexual people face more discrimination than "people from ethnic minority backgrounds" and LGB people, I'd love to hear the reasoning. I'll try not to mock, it's just a psychological parallel universe to me, and I find it fascinating.

Over on the other place I've been arguing with a guy who doesn't know how to use quotation marks or the difference between a phrase and one word from that phrase.

His main feed is denying climate change and calling for 'remigration', so if we can't agree on grammar that's probably a lost cause.

Six of the nine Nobel Prize winners this year work in the U.S.
Three of the six were born outside the U.S., which is the pattern most years. No country has benefited more from welcoming immigrants from around the world.

Imagine waiting 25 years for an appointment.

You might think this can't be right.

You'd be wrong to think that.
"In our analysis, which uses figures from March 2024 to March 2025 painstakingly put together through a series of FOIs, we can show the average estimated waiting time to access an initial appointment at a gender clinic is now 25 years across the UK"

I know this discourse has been done to death, but ICE in 2025 pretty clearly fit the niche of brownshirts. Thuggish and crude enforcers of the early stage of fascism.
ICE just blatantly violated the law and arrested sitting Chicago Alderperson Jessie Fuentes while seeking to illegally arrest a patient in a hospital. Fuck these fascists.

Zack, the deputy leaders, and the CEO all had input, but the final decision rested with the democratically elected Green Party Executive, with input from the Conference Committee

Safety of members attending conference is paramount - credit to everyone involved in preventing GWD peddling their hate
I know this wasn't Zack's call, but he's their leader and I wanted to say 'keep doing what you're doing' because it filters down and gives others the strength to stand up.

Protofascism, like fascism, is a petite-bourgeoise ideology.
Trump's core demographic is in fact white small business owners who haven't gone to college. they are anxious capitalists, not working class.
the going definition of "working class" seems to be whether or not one went to college. look I know we're not going to agree on here about what "working-class" is but can we all agree it's not that?

This is Donald Trump's great contribution to world peace. Leaders of different countries can bond by laughing at him.
The Prime Minister of Albania came up to Macron and Azerbaijani President Aliyev and joked about how Trump had resolved the conflict between Albania and Azerbaijan.

Watching Pete Hegseth (a mid tier Fox News host) and Kash Patel and Dan Bongino (podcasters) elevated to senior roles really underlines just how much of a focus is put on loyalty over competence.
Having watched this again, I think that this is just a sad example of a relatively mediocre junior officer desperately trying to be accepted by accomplished senior officers.

Hegseth is just a kid in his dad's coat struggling to play SecDef. his phrases are just tired copmany-grade catch-phrases.

I think the thing with Starmer's Labour is it's very clear that - certainly at upper echelons - they aren't afraid of Reform taking power, they are afraid of losing power to Reform. Subtle but important difference, hence the confused messaging of "aren't these people evil, anyway we'll do that too"
