Thanks to @appam.bsky.social for a great #APPAM2025. Saw a lot of great work, and I’m leaving feeling really reinvigorated about both my own projects and our collective project to inform policy with high-quality research. Safe travels home, everyone!

Raphael Bostic at #appam2025 on his journey to becoming President of the Atlanta Federal Reserve - notes that he almost quit grad school multiple times, because “it is hard”: up to that point you are absorbing information as a student - in grad school you are a producer of information.

Breaking News: The S&P 500 hit a new high for the year, as optimism among investors drove stocks up for a fifth straight week. The index has risen over 10% from its late October low.

PS: Avoid hosting your JMP or CV on Dropbox or Google Drive if possible. An annoyingly high number of Fed and government systems have these domains blocked.
PSA: Hiring committees will look for your JMP on your website (both because it might be updated there and because job application portals are clunky/frustrating). If you're on the academic job market this year and haven't posted your full paper draft on your website yet, it is time!

News from me, I've started a YouTube channel! I've kicked it off with an introductory video explaining who I am, a reprint from TikTok.

(If you know me, you know I have the tech savvy of a 95-year-old, so cross-posting a video is actually a huge accomplishment.)

Imagine being New Hampshire. You tried a work requirements program in 2018, but it didn't work. You were about to kick 2/3rds of people off Medicaid.

You cancel the program. Interesting idea. Doesn't work.

Now the federal government is REQUIRING you to start it up again!
