Good thread! Generative AI _can't_ be "ethically trained on a small amount of artists." If you want new work in someone's style, you either hope they're some kind of procedural gen artist or you're gonna have to pay a human some money
I think it's possible to know... because afaik there aren't any "closed systems fed by a few consenting artists" that you can use to generate images - you need tens of millions of images to get a base model up and running at a level that's usable for anything.

I would love mandatory git education for everyone. Version Control is the single greatest niche thing that software has produced, and I'd like to see THAT properly propagated out than more "implementations" of Agile

I'm not categorically against data centers, BUT:
* They have very significant externalities wrt energy prices they should be forced to internalize
* As a software dev, I feel we are enormously profligate in our use of cloud resources
* AI-driven buildout does not seem useful or sustainable
