Why are so many people RidewithGPSing the H Mart on Cottman Ave? Is there a ride that ends at the food court or something?

This was so fun. Community work feels fantastic
45 people out to the native plant prep party tonight and packaged a collective 3400 packets of native seeds and folded 200 zines. Absolutely killer work by this crew.

It feels like every single app or website I open launches a goddamn POP-UP asking me if I want to use AI. It reminds me of trying to surf the web in the early 2000s, Christ. Make it stop. No.

"There are a lot of Wednesdays! They come around much more quickly than you'd imagine! Sometimes it feels like there are more Wednesdays than any other days!"

@leahreich.com's newsletter isn't about bikes (tho she values IRL interaction, as do we), but the quote made me LOL

Wednesdays forever! A decade ago I did an essay series called "A Year of Wednesdays" and I've been stuck on Wednesdays ever since.

Also I do like bikes, and if I lived in Philly (I was born there & sometimes wish I'd moved back), I would 100% come on a ride

why yes, I do hate that everything now has a Year in Review

LinkedIn Year in Review? I'd rather slip on an icy sidewalk
Google One (i.e. storage!) Year in Review? hard pass

Beautiful visualizations of travel times in North Philadelphia from a *1914* city transit report
The more you study old US transit plans the more you realize that ~everyone was rightfully fixated on travel time savings, noting times right on the map. Philly did a particularly impressive analysis with isochrones in *1914*

Once on a group bike ride past this statue, the person next to me asked "who's that statue?" and I said, "Don Quixote. A lot of people don't know he was from Philly" and they said "whoa, really?" and I still think about it sometimes

OMG, I had *no idea* you could add -ai to a search to suppress the AI Overview
every time I forget to do -ai to my search I get the most hideous bullshit possible

for instance, here is what happens when I search to see if there is such a thing as a 2-quart ziplock bag

1986, Stand by Me
1987, The Princess Bride
1989, When Harry Met Sally

Remarkable run, just four years
These were absolutely foundational movies for me

RIP, Rob

Personal aside: on the way to the ride, I dropped off the last two sets of party lights from this year's bulk order. 54 sets (108 wheels' worth!) of party lights have been delivered!
I'm an optimist, but I was still astonished how many people turned up for the Holiday Lights Ride last night. It rained for the four hours before the ride! Yet I'd guess around 200 people, maybe more, came out to roll through the illuminated streets of South Philly. Just wild.
