Across Cape Town, South Africa, communities maintain small gardens and keep ancestral recipes alive despite the challenges of rising costs, climate stress, and land pressures. Yet these voices are rarely recognised in policy or mainstream food debates 👇

Happy #WorldWetlandsDay!

Traditional knowledge has long guided the sustainable use of wetlands. As the Convention on Wetlands marks 55 years, #WorldWetlandsDay2026 calls on us to protect wetlands and honour cultural heritage.

Wetlands may often be overlooked, but they are essential to life.

Wetlands store water during droughts, absorb floods, filter pollution and support livelihoods.

This #WorldWetlandsDay, let us honour the traditional knowledge and cultural heritage that have protected wetlands for generations.

It was great to take part in lively discussions at the stakeholder event hosted by Quantum. This is 1 of 5 projects in the UK Freshwater Quality Programme funded by NERC and Defra and is examining the impact of livestock farming on the quality of water in our rivers.
The @quantumfreshwaters.bsky.social team recently welcomed a wide range of Government, industry, farming and freshwater organisations to our Stakeholder event. Great discussions and exchange of ideas on livestock farming as a driver of changing quality in UK rivers and how to mitigate its impacts! 🧪
