Can planting hedgerows help prevent flooding?

Prof Pippa Chapman & Dr Sofia Biffi explain in a webinar this can be the case for soils that drain well compared to those that drain poorly. These insights will help inform natural flood prevention.

2/2 However, as many of the flood groups are often run by volunteers, they can face significant challenges and need more State support.

Findings in this paper link nicely with the very recent UK Parliamentary report on Flood Resilience which has a strong focus on supporting Flood Groups as well.

2/2 Meanwood Urban Valley Farm will be used as a case study to demonstrate the many benefits of Sustainable Urban Drainage & help reduce the risk of flooding in Meanwood Beck catchment.

1/2 🔊Great news - West Yorkshire Flood Innovation Programme's funding bid has been successful so plans to develop a Blue Green Demonstrator site at Meanwood Valley Urban Farm, Leeds can start.

Yorkshire Resilience Flood & Coastal Committee approved the Local Levy bid for a feasibility study.

We listened to film makers, artists & bog enthusiasts describe the therapeutic nature of peatlands.
