I don’t want to hear about norms, I don’t want to hear about looking forward not back, I don’t want to hear about “bipartisanship”

I want the filibuster gone, the court packed, new states, and a top to bottom cleaning of the federal government that ends with a lot of people in jail

Remembering that I grew up with John Glenn and Howard Metzenbaum as senators, but now I have the car salesman and Mr. Lint-for-Brains.
As an undergrad at Kent State in the 80s, I quietly used to think that if students weren't protesting, no one would have been shot. Then I heard Senator Metzenbaum speak at the 15th memorial, reminding us that protest is necessary and patriotic. It was transformational.

Body-shaming is bad, of course, and completely beside the point, but my fellow Ohioans, these guys are giving "Larry Householder," right?

In honor of the season, share a 4 word horror story that only someone in your profession would understand.

"Reporters attending board meeting."
In honor of spooky month, share a 4 word horror story that only someone in your profession would understand.

"The bathroom. It's... bad."

I have zero faith (no pun intended) that our reactionary legislature or doddering governor will move on this, but I signed anyway, and you can too.

Needed to burn off pancake calories from breakfast, so biked into the office for the afternoon shift.

Got carded at the liquor store yesterday. While pulling out my ID, I mused, "You know, I'm almost old enough to drink x 3."

I'm sure that there are people who voted for him for president more than once who are now deeply regretful about the situation they helped create, and I can only say that I have not the slightest iota of a smidge of a skosh of compassion for them.

When this showed up near my neighborhood this year, I first thought, "You're not fooling me, fairies." Pretty soon, I began walking through it deliberately.

Day 16: Favorite Queer Mystery/Thriller 🌈📚

The Henry Rios Mysteries by Michael Nava. Brilliant series of modern noir detective novels addressing gay and Latino identity amid the AIDS crisis. Audible released terrific recordings performed by Thom Rivera.

#ShowMeYourKnits scarf week.

Finished just last week: Pierre Skinny Scarf by Stephen West.

The annual shawl mystery knitalong isn't for me, but I dig when he designs simple pieces showcasing texture.

Day 13: Queer YA Recommendation 🌈📚
This is more middle grade than YA, but I think that's a higher degree of difficulty.

Better Nate Than Ever by Tim Federle

Nate Foster is my hero. And the scene where he stands outside the gay club is breathtakingly well-written.

Day 12: Favorite Queer Poetry 🌈📚

Prelude to a Bruise by @theferocity.bsky.social. I don't think I've read it since it won the Barbara Gittings Literature Award. I should rectify that.

And I didn't learn that Saeed lived in my city until just before he moved away. 😔

Day 11: Hidden Gem 🌈📚
At Swim, Two Boys by Jamie O'Neill

First chapter? Tough to get into. The comparisons to Joyce are apt. But once this gets going, it's entrancing.

What’s your hidden gem queer book?

Day 5: Queer Horror 🌈📚🩸
I had to consult lists for this one, and some of the books on the lists I know I read but didn't remember queer content.

Day 4: Queer Romance You Loved 🌈📚

Not previously much of a queer romance reader, but this is the year I've binged all of @kjcharleswriter.com. It's hard to pick just one, but JACKDAW stands out. I legitimately couldn't see a way for that story to end happily.
