i think it is fascinating that so many artists say that their best ideas come from out of the blue from within, it is sad that the world is now specifically set up to eliminate those moments of calm and peace where the ideas can surface.

The difference between criminal and civil laws "is not a technicality or a formality." Violation of immigration laws is a civil matter, not criminal. It's about fucking time someone with some authority pointed this out
“The husband & wife before this court are charged w/civil violations of our country's immigration laws. Civil. Not criminal. That distinction is not a technicality or a formality. It’s the line the law draws betwn regulation & punishment. Yet these working parents appear in unmistakable prison garb.
Another memorable ruling out of West Virginia, where Judge Goodwin — a Clinton appointee — excoriates the treatment of ICE detainees.

"This is not what civil enforcement looks like in a humane system of government under law."

Carrier groups and crews are already overextended but Trump and Hegseth could care less.
Donald Trump on Tuesday said he was considering sending a second aircraft carrier to the Middle East, even as Washington and Tehran prepare to resume negotiations aimed at averting a new conflict.

The U.S. is seeking to expand the scope of negotiations with Iran beyond the nuclear issue to curb Iran's ballistic missile program, one of the biggest in the Middle East.

“I’ve mentioned before that concentration camp regimes in their early stages often make use of large open infrastructure to convert into detention spaces. Dachau was converted from a shuttered factory into a concentration camp in 1933.”
When I got the contract to write a history of concentration camps in 2014, I hoped to keep the US from ending up here. That didn't work out! But now it's critical to understand how much is already in process and the enormity of what's coming. The sooner we act to stop it, the more people we'll save.
