Measles is a bellwether. Because it’s the most contagious vaccine-preventable disease, when vaccination rates drop, it’s the first to start spreading.

Now we’ve got mumps rolling up.

Expect more.

This is just the beginning of RFK Jr.’s successful infectious disease reintroduction plan.

When Kristi Noem claims she’ll make sure “the right people” vote and elect “the right leaders,” that’s not election security, it’s authoritarianism. Free societies collapse when leaders stop competing for voters and start curating them.

One of the great myths of our society is that really rich people are rich because they are smart.

They are not rich because they are smart.

They are rich because are broken. Because nothing matters more to them than hording wealth. Because they lack morality, empathy, and social responsibility.
It’s also virtually impossible to become a billionaire without choosing immorality many, many times.
There is no such thing as a self-made billionaire.

Exceptions to all categories exist, but it’s astonishing how absolutely clogged our political and media ecosystems are with low-info narcissists

it’s breathtaking to see how this country is in decline by every possible metric
Devastated to learn that Univ of Texas at Austin is closing the American Studies dept. The years I spent there earning my PhD were formative, making me the teacher, thinker, and writer I am today. I've passed on what I learned at UT to thousands of students over the past 20 years. Just awful.

I, for one, want to hear more about the economics & geopolitics of the world in 2036, where Xi Jinping & Vladimir Putin are dead, 🇷🇺 & 🇨🇳 are mired in domestic political unrest & economic crisis, & 🇺🇸, where, for all its many faults, the fascists lost & we implemented extensive democracy reforms.
As a long term optimist I hope that by the 2030s the US-EU partnership will be on a more stable footing as Trumpism self-sabotages through delusional hubris

As a short term pessimist I worry over how uselessly paralysed the US could get in late 2020s as Trumpism burns it all down before it falls
