I literally just was on a panel about game preservation in Chicago 45 minutes ago. The response is simple: not only is the characterization about games and preservation untrue, but it also dismisses the incredible work of film archivists.

tremendously admire his work and the way he talks abt an exploratory creative process BUT it is very sad to me how little that sort of thinking & working is possible. like u need to have an enormously successful career in a medium that isn't yet perfectly industrialized in order to get to this point

Turns out Shin Era Tensei runs on Eramaker, a Japanese engine for text-based RPGs/raising sims first released in 2005 and used for several other SLG (simulation game) eroges - like Touhou & Kanon fangames
I love exploring these obscure games because you often end up finding these ultra-niche scenes
