Save the Games returns next year to The Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester, NY! More info to come, but save the date! July 29 and 30, 2026!
Poking around at some Red Faction files at work today, trying to see what there actually is.

This is cool, so much easier to work with! Gives us a clean look at the background for Pitfighter on NES, from the Atari collection at The Strong.

Google Translate of an FFXI book, with an interview from November 2004. Funny how they still randomly talk about the same thing!

FFXI how it was clearly made to be played: on an Atari VCS computer through VGA on a 4:3 plasma. The intent of the developers fully realized.

Who coined "Metroidvania"? It wasn't @jparish.bsky.social, and he'll be the first to tell you. Besides, there are far more interesting questions, like: How did it spread? Evolve? And what's it got to do with rickrolling?

Watch til the end for a post-credits sting.

Getting better, even if it’s nothing compared to the actually good people.

Beyond sharing files, information and documentation is one of the greatest resources, especially as a non-programmer. Using the information shared (and info I previously shared), it was easy enough to get later versions running now, this one from 03-05. In an earlier build, the ladder sort-of worked

Whatever the not-Covid going around in Rochester sucks. Haven't been this tired since Covid, but other symptoms don't last long. One day fever, one day stomach, etc. Just exhausted!

I first played FFXI in 2003. I would say the majority of my playing came in 2003 to 2005 or so, which was a completely different world. But I finally beat the main story for San d'Oria after all these years.

Met up with Eric Wilder recently and he gave me a copy of Rubber Duckie. I composed the entire soundtrack for this in LSDJ and GB Studio. Pretty nice having my music on an actual gameboy cart. bclikesyou.bandcamp.com/album/rubber... #gamedev #lsdj

I created a Dreamcast-inspired lens filter for my Sony camera. I have to flip it the other way as I make revisions, but the bokeh effect is fun! All in-camera, only converted from RAW.

Playing around with xemu for a few minutes, really impressed by the progress. This is a tech demo for Witchblade, which Climax pitched (largely the same assets as the Highlander tech demo), but running at 10x resolution.

The story of how a Bournemouth schoolboy developed Worms, a video game that went on to become a global phenomenon, is extraordinary. One of my favourite conversations on the show this year-
Persistence paid off for schoolboy game dev @rockandrollmachine.bsky.social when he landed a publishing deal for his first game, Total Wormage (aka Worms), at a trade show.

Listen to the untold story of how Andy designed a game at school that became a global sensation.
