The advertising for Chick-fil-A with the cows is really bizarre to me. It asks you to consider that cows are lovable creatures with have agency who want desperately to live. But then it needs you to stop thinking at that exact spot. If you even imagine the outline of a chicken it all falls apart.

When I was growing up, my family didn’t have money to waste on long-distance phone calls. When my girlfriend and I were separated over the summer, we wrote each other letters. My adult child has never lived in a world where calling someone in another state was a forbidden expense.
