can’t be said enough how self deluding it is to think of this is as far fetched or as some kind of a joke. this is the most humorless man on the planet and he’s an agenda setter.
TAPPER: Can you rule out the US is going to take Greenland by force?

MILLER: Greenland should be part of the US. By what right does Denmark assert control over Greenland? The US is the power of NATO

I think the understandable tendency has been to treat this as a tasteless joke, but in light of all we've seen to date, we need to take seriously the possibility that they may be insane enough to try to seize the territory of a peaceful ally by force for... no real reason.

Is there any insider testimony that Trump is intentionally using any of the inflammatory things he does as distractions? Or is it just vibes?

For Chris Murphy to say this is something.
Chris Murphy: "At some level he's winning tonight because clearly part of his intent here was to distract the American people -- you and I -- from what's happening here at home. You have 20 million families who are getting massive increases in their healthcare premiums. People will die."

Violence and the threat of violence warps our politics & empowers the fascists
We underestimate how impactful harassment and threats of violence are on politicians. Clear, large uptick in the number of major incumbent politicians not running/retiring specifically due to harassments and threats of violence. The harassers are like 0.1% of the population but hugely impactful.

The Trump administration rejected recommendations from an advisory committee to honor Frederick Douglass and the woman suffrage and Civil Rights movements, replacing them with coins that feature pilgrims, the Revolutionary War and the Gettysburg Address.

Another one where there's a majority, and likely a supermajority, for sane policy in both chambers of Congress...but Republicans won't act on their sincere (*and very popular!*) beliefs.

It's a dysfunctional GOP problem. Again. As is so much of what's gone wrong.

The destruction doesn't make for a photo-op like tearing down the East Wing of the White House or bulldozing the Rose Garden, but it's every bit as bad. Generations of American children learned to spell and count, learned the Preamble to the Constitution, from watching shows produced by the CPB.

WH sources say Venezuela's opposition leader committed the "ultimate sin": She accepted the Nobel Peace prize.

“If she had turned it down and said, ‘I can’t accept it because it’s Donald Trump’s,’ she’d be the president of Venezuela today,” one said.

There's significant evidence from state legislative term limits that they do, in fact, empower both lobbyists and state executive branches.

"Disagreeing" without offering any counter-evidence is just vibes.
I disagree with the suggestion that term limits would further empower lobbyists and therefore we shouldn't consider them as a viable path forward. The current system of federal elected officials who are financially incentivized to become insider traders until they choose to retire isn't working.

Typically when the US embarks on an illegal or dubiously legal regime change we use noble words about democracy, rule of law, spreading freedom, etc. to justify our actions. Trump has not done that. He offers few noble words as eulogistic covering. It's a crass power & oil grab, according to Trump.

During Fiona Hill's testimony to Congress on Oct 14, 2019, she described how Trump and Putin discussed exchanging Ukraine for Venezuela. The quid pro quo was if Trump refuses to help Ukraine fight off a Russian invasion, Putin would not help Venezuela (a Russian ally) resist a US takeover.

No one believes this. We don't, they don't, even their supporters don't. There's no point on having these guys on to tell lies that no one believes and not push back.
WELKER: If the purpose of the operation was to capture Maduro and bring him to justice, why does the US need to take over the Venezuela oil industry?

RUBIO: Well, we don't *need* to. We have plenty of oil in the US. We want to see the oil proceeds of the country benefit the people of Venezuela.

Obviously this is racist claptrap but I do want to point out:

If a member of Congress went to the floor and leaked an upcoming military operation, that would in fact be 100% consistent with the Constitutional text and the Framers' intent. They created a special immunity just for stuff like that.
GOP Rep. Pat Harrigan: "There are members of Congress that they just cannot trust. And I understand that. We have folks that are Somali first and not America first."
