I’m just this guy, you know? Pro-democracy, pro-peace, pro-people. 2 wheels > 4 wheels.
This is absolutely nuts. Trump has scheduled a military "parade" to counter this weekend's No Kings protests, and it involves Navy ships firing live missiles onto Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. This requires closure of I-5, which runs ~N-S to the west of Pendleton, close to the shoreline.
BREAKING EXCLUSIVE: Trump may launch missiles from warships into California this Friday and Saturday as part of what is being described as a “vanity parade” and shut down portions of the I-5 during the No Kings protests meidasnews.com/news/exclusi...

@scalzi.com Just read "The Shattering Peace" and enjoyed it, as I have all your other books. Is it a coincidence that you have a character in it whose name is that of motorcycle racer Hector Barbera with the last letter removed?

A weird thought to have about them after Alex Márquez beat Marc Marquez, but I'm reminded of what Indy Car racer Al Unser, Jr., said near the start of his career, about learning from his multi-champion father: "My dad taught me everything I know. But he didn't teach me everything HE knows." #MotoGP

Every European state that tries to convince Ukraine that they should accept a security guarantee that falls short of NATO and relies on the world of Donald Trump--should be required to leave NATO and take the exact same "guarantee".
We can then see how much worth it really has.

Brilliant negotiation! End the war by giving Putin everything he wants (so far).
President Trump told European leaders after his meeting with President Putin of Russia on Friday that he supported a plan to end the war in Ukraine by ceding territory to the Russian invaders, rather than try for a cease-fire. It's a reversal of what Trump seemed to agree to with European allies.
After Meeting Putin, Trump Reverts to Land Swaps for Peace in Ukraine
The U.S. president’s latest statements are a reversal of much of what he seemed to have agreed to with European allies this past week.

1. This week, the FBI released its comprehensive crime report for 2024, which revealed that both VIOLENT CRIME and PROPERTY CRIME reached their LOWEST LEVELS SINCE THE 1960s

This a massive story. But you might not have heard about it, even if you follow the news closely.

Here's why.
Why you might not know that 2024 was America's safest year since the 1960s
An overwhelming majority of Americans, 64 percent, believe that crime increased across the country in 2024, according to a Gallup survey conducted late last year.
