Mules are amazing animals. Fossil fuel engines work less and less well the higher you get, while mules just keep on going over any terrain.

Shit like this is why I prefer a framework of "patriarch" over "alpha male". Kings and cult leaders throughout human history have always wanted to control territory, information, lesser men, and harems of young fuckables. Everything else, to them, is lip service to excuse that lifestyle.

I would add to this thread: the ability to tolerate discomfort without acting out is a necessary skill for living in the world. And you can tell a lot about what someone feels entitled to by what kind and degree of discomfort they prove unwilling to tolerate.
Social discomfort is a strategy, and much of the so-called “culture wars” are over who gets to feel or not feel discomfort, and what that says about us.
