Just came across this on Mastodon and thought I'd share it for anyone wondering if adding image alt text is "worth it."

ChanceyFleet: "As a Blind person i never thought i would be on social media savoring photos... all dispatches from a dimension of the world that i otherwise wouldn't experience."

I remember reading about Ibelin at the time of his death. This is a fantastic piece that revisits his life, ahead of a Netflix documentary coming out this month.

Well worth a read, and i suspect will be well worth a watch too.

Mules are amazing animals. Fossil fuel engines work less and less well the higher you get, while mules just keep on going over any terrain.

I remember being told in the Himalayas that beyond a certain height, a mule becomes more expensive than any motor vehicle.
“They call them beasts of burden, we call them our beloved mules,” the company wrote on Facebook Monday. “They are capable and willing to work in many conditions most won't. They are not stubborn… they are wise, and require respect.”

RESPECT MULES!!!

With hundreds of roads still impassable due to storm damage and flood debris, Mount Ulla-based Mountain Mule Packer Ranch is using their “beloved” pack mules to bring supplies to areas not accessible ...

Thinking about the way that Trek has its commanders come from different disciplines, and how much (or little) that influences their commands.

Chakotay, all problems with his character aside, is an anthropologist - and approaches interactions with other peoples through that lens.

Shit like this is why I prefer a framework of "patriarch" over "alpha male". Kings and cult leaders throughout human history have always wanted to control territory, information, lesser men, and harems of young fuckables. Everything else, to them, is lip service to excuse that lifestyle.

Just saw a video of someone replying to “everyone’s a little autistic” with “I guess everyone’s also a little 6 feet tall” and I laughed so hard because that’s such a good answer 😂

Alongside "who built Hadrian's wall?", another great example of knowledge falling foul of 'common understanding' is scurvy.

The Royal Navy discovered the cure for scurvy, won the Napoleonic War, humanity then lost that knowledge without realising, then got saved by two Norwegian guinea pigs 🧵 /1

"Your kind BETRAYED us!" The young dragon bellowed.

The black cat laughed. "No, whelp. The time of magic was done."

"We warned you. Humans are subdued by the purr, not the claw." The cat continued. "So we adapted. And you died."

"Now begone." The cat said. "This is not your world now. It is ours"

Mr. Kenobi has referred to Mos Eisley as a "wretched hive of scum and villainy." But we sat down with some patrons at a local cantina and they painted a very different picture of life in the the struggling spaceport town and explained why they continue to support Mr. Jabba's leadership.

People who are upset that it is now they, the bigot, who has to feel uncomfortable instead of queer people, who get to exist normally?

They can stay upset.

I would add to this thread: the ability to tolerate discomfort without acting out is a necessary skill for living in the world. And you can tell a lot about what someone feels entitled to by what kind and degree of discomfort they prove unwilling to tolerate.
Social discomfort is a strategy, and much of the so-called “culture wars” are over who gets to feel or not feel discomfort, and what that says about us.

As I sat on the edge, contemplating the street ten stories below, a raven landed next to me.

"Is it true," I said, "that seeing a raven means you'll die?"

"Yes," it said, "but not today."

It's come a few more times the last sixty years, with the same words. I just figured it out.
