On any given day, there's 125+ fatal shootings in the US. 50% of those are suicides. A bunch more are accidents. But that still leaves 25+ homicides. Charlie Kirk was but one of those. Which is, in part, the reaction to Kirk's assassination feels more like performative histrionics than actual grief

If you think Ezra's blindness to Kirk's violent rhetoric is a problem, then perhaps reconsider the value of Ezra's advice about the shutdown.

@nytpitchbot.bsky.social. As we heap well deserved opprobrium on the WaPo's new "opinion" page, let's make share to share some love for the NYT which just decided that "Matter of Opinion" will be all Ross Douthat, all of time. (I do wonder whether the other hosts are refusing to appear with him)

In the last election, one candidate was proposing coercive restrictions on personal liberty and replacing free trade and free markets with heavy tariffs and authoritarian favoritism. The other was Kamala Harris. Bezos personally killed an endorsement of Harris and celebrated at Trump’s inauguration.
Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos just emailed the paper's staff to announce a "change coming to our opinion pages."

@esquiver.bsky.social I'm assuming that you saw this, but just in case
This morning at Dept of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) HQ in DC as mandatory return to office began, this video played on loop for ~5 mins on screens throughout the building, per agency source.

Building staff couldn’t figure out how to turn it off so sent people to every floor to unplug TVs.

Merz just said on German TV that the primary priority of his government will be to ensure that Europe can achieve full strategic independence from the United States in the defence against Russia.

Merz was once a die hard Atlanicist. Now, after Trump he is a Gaullist.

Extraordinary.

Trying to figure out if these are necessary in 1. The US (why?) 2. The EU (why and they are illegal). 3. Other parts of the world (Of dubious utility even before charging concerns). The naked corruption / idiocy is mind blowing.

So, turns out that Biden and Trump are NOT the same with respect to Israel / Palestine.   Though I never figured that the US would be the ones annexing Gaza.
Wonder how long before Israel seized the West Bank...

@thebulwark.bsky.social I was just listening to Tommy Veitor and Tim Miller discussing their regrets about missing out on a generational wealth opportunity when they didn't invest in crypto. Slavery... That made a bunch of fortunes. As did Tobacco. The Sackler's achieved generational wealth.

Antisemitism is also surging again in parts of the world, including here in the US. We must stay vigilant both to protect those vulnerable and marginalized groups, but to also to prevent the slippery slope that could lead to another holocaust. 4/4
