I went to all 10 of the daycares Nick Shirley featured in his viral video. I got inside 4 and found children. Lots of children: www.startribune.com/day-care-fra...
We went to some of the day cares Nick Shirley did. Here’s what we found.
Some of the 10 day cares the YouTube content creator blasted for having “no children” invited reporters in to see for themselves.

Happy New Year’s Eve!

I just found out my talks were accepted to @socallinuxexpo.bsky.social Scale 23x and @lfnw.org Linux Fest Northwest in 2026! I can’t wait to see everyone in the New Year and talk #Linux!

i cannot condition myself to be rude to something that is acting like a person toward me
I'm not worried about people being abusive to their AI chatbots, especially men being sexually abusive, from the POV of "AI chatbots are a real sentient guy being harmed", but I feel like the way you repeatedly learn to treat something that can't say no *must* bleed into how you treat humans, right?

Sooo cool 😍
The Flying Bat and Squid Nebula (SH2-129). I imaged this recently for 6 nights. I haven't landed on a good SHO combination for it yet, the hydrogen is just so strong in this area, but the HOO came together without a fight.

As many of us begin Christmas meal prep, allow me to share the advice that my ER nurse sister puts in the chat every year:

A dropped knife has no handle. Jump away. Let it fall. You can pick it up and wash it.

This reminds me of a colleague who used to use Monzo as a chat app by sending £0.01 to a friend and using the reference field as the message. You get the money back when they reply. They send thousands of messages back and forth.
I ran a fairly large blog commenting platform in ~2001 and was taken by surprise when performance tanked because some blog entries suddenly had tens of thousands of comments.

Turns out Japanese teenagers were picking a random blog each day and using the comments as a chatroom.

“I carried him on my back. It took seven days.” A camp in eastern Chad is now home to more than 100,000 refugees of Sudan’s civil war, and is a key destination for those fleeing El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State. Resources are strained as the number of newly displaced people increases.

I highly recommend watching this segment, not just because the CBS News execs and the White House didn’t want you to, but because these men were tortured and they deserved to have their voices heard.
