always strange to talk about but when i see everyone around me accepting sickness when i have been doing just one thing different while attending movies parties bars concerts flights…….i feel morally obligated to occasionally mention that wearing a mask has been a game changer. simple as that

Masking is how I'm escaping holiday ick.from family. I HOPE others will take precautions like masking up & testing before Magfest.

Cuz if I get sick from event - I can possibly pinpoint WHO & WHERE I got it from.

This is why these precautions are IMPORTANT not only for me but for others too.
So many of us haven't been sick for years now and it's pretty great, actually. Maybe more of us need to enthuse about the awesomeness of 5 or 6 or whatever years without colds or the flu or anything else like that thanks to masks.
I didn't know how effective masks were until all this and now that I do, I'm looking back all my illnesses going "you mean those were AVOIDABLE?!"

My immune system is doing its best, but even so. Who wants an avoidable flu?!

Accessibility just means everyone being able to use or get the same enjoyment that everyone else takes for granted.

Generally we think of alt-text as the domain of those with accessibility needs.

However alt-text is useful for many reasons, which benefit your viewers, as well as you, the creator!

Important 🧵
1. Sometimes, the absurdity of the situation we're all in just hits me. Going forward, ongoing and continuous transmission of SARS-CoV-2 will lead to an ever-increasing percentage of the global population developing chronic illnesses due to sequelae of infection.

4. With this in mind, ignore anyone who mocks you for taking precautions to protect yourself and others. Their mocking comes from ignorance, and their ignorance comes from denial.

3. In many countries, politics and the institutionalisation of anti-vax and pro-infection ideologies are actually encouraging this outcome. This is, to the best of my knowledge, unprecedented in human history: Humanity being overtly on the side of the virus, basically.

2. Simultaneously, the immune dysregulation effect of infection will continue to create opportunities for other pathogens to infect, disable, and kill. One of those pathogens might well start the next pandemic.

Heard a lot of JP artists are joining! Make sure to check these language settings so you can see posts in all languages!
heads up that bluesky doesnt show posts from other languages by default on your timeline, and its cutting you off from a lot of the community

go to bsky.app/settings/lan... and deselect any language from this setting, or else you might not see any of the new japanese users at all!

"A newly published review paper looks at why some people develop diabetes after COVID, particularly as part of Long COVID. It’s not claiming a single cause, and it’s not saying this happens..."

This is reason I still wear a mask on all flights and probably will do so forever. I also still carry CO2 monitor to check ventilation! My lessons (after not catching it yet AFAIK): always wear a mask during travel, in tight crowded spaces, public restrooms, hotel corridors, and elevators....

Amazing that this review paper from 2021 just became my most cited paper of my 30+ yr career. I am honored to have been the lead first co-corresponding author with @ChiaWang8. COVID is indeed airborne--as are most other respiratory viruses. @ucsandiego.bsky.social
