The execution of Alex Pretti is playing so badly because you can look at his actions and life story - his last act was helping, boy scout, athlete, health care worker to veterans - and compare those to the men who killed him and know which you would want to be your son, brother, father, uncle.

Go ICE, go DHS, go Trumplethinskin: so much winning. Fuck them all to hell.
Since July, I've tracked at least 2,300 cases in which federal judges have ruled ICE has illegally detained people without bond or due process.

This is one that stands out:

Heartbreaking and uplifting at the same time. I get the strong feeling he was the kind of guy who realised what was at stake and would give his life if it meant a better life for others - let this be the turning point.
A video of Alex Pretti reading out the final salute of an unnamed veteran he cared for until the end of his life in the ICU, posted to Facebook by his son.

Looking forward to the @royalsociety.org response on this
So if one doesn't do 'faulty, fraudulent or highly defective' research all else is fine?

Where's the limit @royalsociety.org? There's much to choose, including
Destroying and defunding research/infrastructures
Hundreds of thousands of deaths
Monetising creation/distribution of child abuse images
Paul Nurse, interviewed by the FT about whether @royalsociety.org should expel Musk said: "the institution should only expel fellows if their science proved “faulty or fraudulent or highly defective”". That implies the Society's Code of Conduct is utterly meaningless.

Maduro was a brutal ruler, it’s true. So is Putin—who Trump supports. So was Bolsonaro, who Trump supports. So was the drug-trafficking former head of Honduras, who Trump just pardoned. So is Nayib Bukele in El Salvador. MBS. Bibi.

Stop pretending Trump cares about illegitimacy or brutality.

I’m about 11. Me & a chum are in WHSmith: he was into comics, I was into cars. I’m looking at a car mag & thinking he’s still just over my shoulder, I turn & say “Phwoar, look at that” about some or other supercar. To a random middle-aged bloke. Upon realising, I basically play dead, but standing up

Christmas, more than any other time, can magnify the bad things in one’s life. It could be yours or a loved one’s physical or mental health, the loss of bereavement or money troubles. If you’re doing ok, the best gift you can give is to reach out to those who aren’t. Be kind x
