Every American should be ashamed of who we are and what we have become as a nation today. We have a long history of military misadventures and even crimes but the attacks we have been conducting on Venezuela are among the most wanton, egregious and least defensible acts we’ve ever conducted.

No one holds any sympathy for Maduro but the point what’s concerning is much larger: In that jaw-dropping, bonkers press briefing, Trump reasserted the Monroe Doctrine (!), said the U.S. will run Venezuela, said the operation was about “our” oil, and batted away Congress’s role.

Now, *that’s* an executive order.
I was wondering what Mamdani's first executive order would be, and I'm not disappointed by this.

He has wiped off the books EVERY Eric Adams executive order issued on or after September 26, 2024, the day Adams was indicted on federal bribery charges.

What’s happening here is nakedly transparent and it’s an ugly trifecta of racism, political grievance, and weaponized government.
The Department of Health and Human Services moved to freeze child care payments to Minnesota after a circulated video reignited a “fraud scandal” involving the state’s social services system, intensifying conservative calls for an aggressive government crackdown. However, the video at the center

It’s worse than that. Trump’s One Big Ugly Bill extended his 2017 tax break allows for a 100%, first-year deduction for private jets used primarily for business. Meanwhile, teachers can’t deduct more than $300 for school supplies.

HillaryClinton was wrong. Trump is no puppet.

He’s a ventriloquist dummy.
Watching the press conference between President Zelenskyy and Trump and while it isn't over yet - as expected - I can already see that this meeting didn't yield even one bit of results. It is just the same old recycled mantras.

This is a person who never shows the slightest concern for others. He really means, *I* will get hurt.
After Marjorie Taylor Greene held a news conference at which she threatened to name abusers in the Epstein files, Trump called her.

Greene was in her Capitol Hill office. Everyone in the suite of rooms could hear him yelling at her.

According to Greene, Trump replied, "My friends will get hurt."

It says everything that Trump said he was angry hearing about an alleged “Ukrainian attack” on Putin’s residence yet he expresses no outrage about Russia’s civilian attacks, kidnapping of Ukrainian children, among other atrocities.

The discourse settles on voter responsibility because that’s where the responsibility lies. Voting is in a category of things many people don’t like to do (e.g. flossing, exercise, doing taxes) which have consequences for not doing them. As Obama jokingly put it, we have to eat our peas.
A lot of this discourse seems to settle on “voters don’t need motivation to vote, they just need to show up every time.” Which seems insane and ahistorical.

This massive imbalance has severely distorted our politics, our society, our healthcare—even religion (see “prosperity gospel”). The warning lights have been flashing red for years and if we don’t correct our course there will be worse to come.
America's richest 10% now hold 60% of the nation's wealth.

The bottom half of America? It holds just 6%.

Wealth inequality is eating this country alive.

Trump and Rubio have successfully neutered the State Dept’s legal office, just as the Judge Advocate Generals were at DoD. This will lead nowhere good at all. There is natural tension between the policy and legal shops but legal input was a valued and necessary part of the policymaking process.

Quite the accusation from the person responsible for shutting down USAID and most of its humanitarian and health programs, which has already resulted in approx. 600,000 deaths. There will be an estimated 14 million more, including 4.5 million kids, by 2030 if the cuts continue.

Denmark lost more troops per capita in the post 9/11 war on Afghanistan. Saying they “are not a good ally” because they won’t surrender their territories to the US is lunacy. We are betraying our allies to satisfy the whims of a would-be Emperor for whom the US is not enough.
They’re again advocating against Denmark when it comes to Greenland
