I love this Christmas Card 💚 The tower with the tricolour flying from it is actually the Record Tower.

However, because it housed the state papers previously held in the Bermingham Tower for 300-odd years (until about 1813, when they moved), its name was regularly confused. #History #Heritage
Christmas card sent by Chief Justice Hugh and Mrs Clare Kennedy. Drawing by George Monks, depicting a scribe at work, with Dublin Castle, the Bermingham Tower (with tricolour) and the Chapel Royal in the background, [1924].

Ireland is an outlier for houses. We need more three storey medium-density terraced housing as an alternative to semi-Ds or apartments. Here are examples from John Dobbins, and Amsterdam. ec.europa.eu/eurostat/web...

The day has come together wonderfully well. Got stuck into making the Christmas puddings (a bit later than usual). Turned on the tele for some background noise, and “My Fair Lady” was on. This is my spirit of Christmas 🎄

Northern Ireland continues show off just how broken UK counter-terrorism law has become...
Judge Kerr said he accepted that this was not a terrorist case but that the pipe bombs had been left to "cause fear and distress and in order to achieve a sectarian aim of stopping the GAA using public pitches".

Pipe bombs not terrorism, holding signs in support of Palestine Action however, is.
A man who left pipe bombs at a Co Down sports ground in an attempt to intimidate a newly formed GAA club into leaving, has been given a three year sentence.

The reason is your party, John.

Fascinated by Fianna Fáil TDs who are surprised that changing the policy of 2:1 spending on public transport will result in less public transport being built.

The last 3.5 yrs a small, stubborn team has been rebuilding an independent bookshop, powered by tea, spreadsheets & a slightly excessive love of books.
We’re now officially An Post Bookshop of the Year & our MD, Mick Finucane, has written a 5 a.m. blog about it

Bookshop Of The Year 2025 Chapters Bookstore Dublin
It is 5 a.m. and I am sitting at the kitchen table, my jacket and bow tie abandoned somewhere in the hall, far too wired to sleep. A few hours ago, at the An Post Irish Book Awards, Chapters was named...

Upsettingly, he looks younger than my own fourty two years … 🤦🏻‍♂️
In 1579 when this was painted William of Orange, 46 years old, was at the height of his power. Five years later he would be assassinated at close range.

I was drawn to this humble, unassuming window at the Talbot Inn in Much Wenlock. Maybe it’s the bulls eye centre — or the thought of peeking faces, everyday moments, and stories it has seen over the centuries. What is it for you? 🤔

Absolutely love the stylus Sir William Bruce holds in his hand here - chalk in one end and charcoal in the other? A wonderful insight to the methods of the past.

We urgently need Compulsory Rental Orders so no habitable home lies empty in order to keep rents high, espically new build apartment blocks

Leaving these homes empty just goes to show that the profit margins must be huge to go without any income

Housing crisis in a nutshell

“Our adult children would love to move out

There’s a beautiful new apartment block 5 minutes away. Sadly they are all for rent at extortionate prices

What’s more infuriating is many of these apartments are still vacant” (text in alt) www.irishtimes.com/opinion/lett...
