Brilliant day yesterday - a Parkrun then caught up with pals I hadn't seen for a while in Todmorden. After that it was off to Hebden Bridge to see Patrick Fitzgerald (ex-Kitchens of Distinction) play a wonderful set of old and new tunes at @thetradesclub.bsky.social which absolutely blew me away.

Betty Mackereth, Philip Larkin's feisty long term secretary, immortalised in the 1962 poems Toads Revisited, has passed away today aged 101. Betty was a great supporter of the Philip Larkin Society. We send our condolences to her family.

We had a German teacher called Mrs Cunningham at our comprehensive school. She was a massive Paul McCartney fan and for one lesson we had to translate No More Lonely Nights. It seems like the lamest thing ever at the time. But I just pulled out the 7 ", played it and welled up because it's a TUNE.

So many fantastic versions of Hey Joe, from Hendrix to Love to The Leaves to Kasenetz-Katz Singing Orchestral Circus, yet not one of them addresses the fact that for a fugitive murderer, Joe really does seem to be spending a lot of time stopping and chatting and indeed outlining his movements.
