This thread reminds me very much of one of my exes. He’s the one who told me I was bad at writing and it was just a waste of time, and I believed it. I didn’t write a word for nearly twenty years. Hell’s too good for this sort of person.
So a long long time, when I was very young, I got married to a guy after the second time I failed out of college, and we got along fine and didn’t have too many problems when he saw me as a dropout who was supporting him by working full time while he finished a college degree.
One of the things that was common listening to (almost entirely women) give acceptance speeches for winning awards for writing romance novels was how many of them praised their husbands for doing basic household chores.

I think what makes fanfiction so magical is writers taking the time to explore tiny elements that were shown in the source material & then abandoned. It's the deep dive into that t-shirt, the forgotten gift, the nickname, the spare key, the love that never was, the trauma ignored. Fans remember.
