If we don’t have a book you want on the shelf we can order it in next day (or next next day if Saturday) and we post anywhere from our online shop. There’s a whole bunch of brilliant indies in Cumbria including - @westwoodbooks.bsky.social @fredsbookshop.bsky.social @bookendscarlisle.bsky.social
It's Independent Bookshop Week. Ways you can support them:

-Don't browse a little bookshop, make a mental note of titles, then get them on Amazon. Buy the books then and there! Dare you!

-Get them to order books in, they almost always can.

-Just march in and present them with a huge bag of money.

On March 26th I’ll be at @westwoodbooks.bsky.social, the largest bookshop in the Yorkshire Dales. I’ve wanted to arrange an event there for a long time, so I’m over the moon that I’ll finally get to sit amongst their stock of 70,000 books and talk about mine.

Have you heard of Odette Tchernine? A socialite & novelist, she became a renowned cryptozoologist in the 1970’s. She wrote a number of books about the Yeti or Abominable Snowman. We have two, one is signed & inscribed by the author with a few annotations correcting the text. Both first editions.

We’ve recently acquired a large collection of mountaineering books, a lot of which are signed, including these two beauties. We’ve started to add them on our Abe Books listing here www.abebooks.co.uk/servlet/Sear...

One for @pollyrowena.bsky.social - owls will now always remind me of you 😊
In Druid mythology, Owl is one of the three 'Elders of the World', the others are Eagle and Blackbird

Owl appearing in your dream represents transformation, hidden wisdom, and spiritual evolution

Here's your daily reminder that bookstores keep the love of reading alive — but they also keep neighborhoods beautiful. They are places to gather, to celebrate stories, to find community.

Please do your holiday shopping at your local independent bookstore, if you are lucky enough to still have one.

Why read books? Because reading opens minds & hearts. It helps us imagine different lives and different worlds; it can help us build a better world. So please keep reading books with kids, and encouraging them to read. There is nothing more important. #literacy #books #reading
