Intelligence Analyst #NHS. Passionate about data and the positive change it can make in our world. Love to help wildlife in the garden while growing food. Hike a bit, run a bit, like a good book. 🇬🇧🇪🇺
Between weather and work I didn't get in the garden today, but out on a walk with Mouse I saw what I think (and hope) was a flock of field fares. #autumn

My gardening new year always begins with the planting of garlic bulbs. Usually I plant them on the shortest day but I'm experimenting planting them in November to see if it improves yield. 48 Solent Wight.

Good morning on this rather grey, dull day. Looks like the clouds might disperse for a time, but more rain is expected later.
My first bird of the day are the seagulls, singing as they fly over.

Well done NY.
Zohran Mamdani, a 34-year-old state lawmaker, was elected New York’s 111th mayor on Tuesday, riding a historic surge of enthusiasm as the nation’s largest city embraced generational and ideological change.

Here are seven takeaways from election night.
7 Takeaways From a Stunning New York City Mayoral Election

Having travelled many times on a train from Doncaster to London I cannot imagine the utter terror passengers must have felt on that train. Nowhere to hide, and nowhere to run. My thoughts are with all those seriously injured.

Not only have I managed to cut the grass before the rain starts but have managed to get everywhere cut just before the petrol ran out.

That concludes the lawn mowing season 2025 🤣

Small but significant glimmers of hope when it comes to politics.
When I said we weren't here to be disappointed in Labour but to replace them. I meant it.

Mouse is on her way home, four teeth lighter. She feels very sorry for herself. Lots of quiet time now for this pup.
October 10, 2025 at 4:46 PM
Im keeping myself busy in the garden this today as Mouse, our 14-year-old Jack Russell, is at the vets to have some surgery on a cracked tooth. You wouldn't normally operate on a puppy of her grand age, but leaving it would be worse. So, the garden is my place to keep my mind occupied

Time to spend in the garden today. The tomato plants need clearing away, as do the cucumbers. And I need to empty the ready contents of a composter over a raised bed. But first, tea!

Well said 👏
Just fuck off with this. How about start the conversation by highlighting how much immigrants contribute to the UK - not least by propping up the NHS and social care system!

Also - forced volunteering is not volunteering, it's unpaid labour.

Give people access to better childcare so working is easier, access to better transport so not having a car isn't a barrier to better paid work, work on communities and fund them to support each other. Instead, we get pandering to flags and ID cards as some kind of solution to the R£form disaster.
September 26, 2025 at 12:56 PM
I genuinely don't get it, but want to understand. If R£form are on target to win the next election (the thought is giving me nightmares), why doesn't Labour look to help/ support those who are hell bent on voting the other way? Wouldn't expanding child care options be better than pursuing ID cards?

Ok. They’ve pissed me off.

I’m back to tell you 3 things about ID cards:

1. Migrants ALREADY HAVE biometric ID cards & govts have been trying to digitise them for years w repeated fuckups & failures causing complete chaos - they don’t work, you do not want that system for you.
