As promised, a thread on (Bavarian) German christmas bakery. 'Tis the season, after all. One of the oldest examples popular in southern Germany and Austria is the Kletzenbrot. Kletzen are dried pears and the rural population would add the dried pears to their bread during advent. Any sweetness 🍜

In the 1970s, an invention of tradition connected the fight for women’s liberation with the figure of the witch. However, this narrative grounded in male fantasies of the 19th century (Bachofen, Grimm, Michelet, and many others). The German “völkisch” feminism followed this pattern, as did Second Wave feminism after the Second World War, especially in its esoteric, spiritual, and ecological branch. The narrative gained ground in the European, the transatlantic and the postcolonial Women’s Movements. Modern witchcraft research has unmasked the “witchcraft narrative” as a mere invention of tradition. However, the “witch narrative” remains alive in the work of the Autonomist Marxist feminist Silvia Federici. The spirit of Grimm and Michelet, which had been conveyed via Gage, Murray and her epigones of spiritual feminism and eco-feminism, still breathes in Federici's books. This article deconstructs Federici’s witches. They are not the granddaughters of the witches who had not been burned, but simply the epigones of the witches invented by males during the 19th century.

MEMORANDUM OPINION February 12, 2026 [Dkt. #2] United States Senator Mark Kelly, a retired naval officer, has been censured by Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth for voicing certain opinions on military actions and policy. In addition, he has been subjected to proceedings to possibly reduce his retirement rank and pay and threatened with criminal prosecution if he continues to speak out on these issues. Secretary Hegseth relies on the well-established doctrine that military servicemembers enjoy less vigorous First Amendment protections given the fundamental obligation for obedience and discipline in the armed forces. Unfortunately for Secretary Hegseth, no court has ever extended those principles to retired servicemembers, much less a retired servicemember serving in Congress and exercising oversight responsibility over the military. This Court will not be the first to do so! Worse still, Secretary Hegseth contends that this Court is not yet competent to decide the issues in this case. He and his fellow Defendants argue that military personnel 1 Case 1:26-cv-00081-RJL Document 37 Filed 02/12/26 Page 2 of 29 decisions are exempt from judicial review and, in any event, that Senator Kelly should first be required to go through the military appeals process so the military can have the first crack at adjudicating his First Amendment rights. I disagree. This Court has all it needs to conclude that Defendants have trampled on Senator Kelly's First Amendment freedoms and threatened the constitutional liberties of millions of military retirees. After all, as Bob Dylan famously said, "You don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows." To say the least, our retired veterans deserve more respect from their Government, and our Constitution demands they receive it! Senator Kelly's First Amendment claim is not only justiciable; he is likely to succeed on the merits. He has also shown irreparable harm, and the balance of the equities fall decidedly in his favor. As such, his motion for a preliminary injunction on his First Amendment claim is hereby GRANTED.

Social transitions in early childhood have profound developmental impacts, with some children maturing into fluid identities and others eventually following medical pathways. There was recognition that there is a very small subgroup of children whose gender incongruence persists long-term and who may require ongoing support and possible medical interventions. However, support for parents to keep options open and manage distress is critical to avoid premature or inappropriate social transitions. Safeguarding concerns include cases where parental motivations may drive social transitions inappropriately, necessitating careful assessment and family support. Endocrinology input Allocated paediatric endocrinology time for the NI service is 0.2 WTE consultant sessions. At present, endocrinology clinics are reduced to 2 per month because of the closure of the endocrine pathway since 2020. Not all patients referred to endocrinology will progress to a hormone pathway following clinical assessment. Young people should be transferred to the adult service at the age of 17½ but this has been challenging in recent years due to lengthy waiting lists. By March 2025, young people could be transferred to the adult gender service for psychological support at 17½, but no new referrals were being accepted to adult endocrinology service. This was flagged as a patient safety risk as it means the paediatric endocrinologist has had to continue managing patients as they move into adulthood. There was clarity that adult endocrinologists would not be able to provide services for paediatric patients within the new service model. The UK just proposed new school guidance that effectively bans even social transition for trans students (using a different name, pronoun or haircut). It implements a full bathroom ban while requiring mandatory outing of trans youth if a teacher suspects they are trans.

Well, that's pretty certain to violate a number of international laws. What it isn't going to do is stop people seeking asylum in Europe, just as the EUs latest spectacularly inhumane "offshoring" proposals won't. All it does is shift routes, likely to even more dangerous ones which cost more lives.
