I retired from NOAA/NWS/NCEP/EMC in 2020. But I am wearing my old NWSEO shirt today in solidarity with nine excellent colleagues from the Environmental Modeling Center (EMC) who were arbitrarily let go yesterday with almost no notice. The community is behind you so please stay strong!

In the century leading up to 1975, nearly 6000 freighters went down in the Great Lakes.

The Edmund Fitzgerald was the last.

The last. In 50 years, not a single commercial freighter has been lost in the Great Lakes.

Why?

It's NOAA. Of course it's NOAA.

The Founders knew Congress - especially the House - was the backbone of U.S. democracy. It should be a huge story that Mike Johnson, serving Trump, has all but shut it down

The solar revolution means that power can be decentralized, democratized, distributed far more justly. So it makes perfect and hideous sense, given the nostalgia of authoritarians for a golden age (of exclusion, exploitation, and inequality ), to tie themselves to all fossil fuel's problems.
The Future Is Coming and It's (Literally) Sunny: Notes on the Solar Revolution

It's been two weeks since Adelita Grijalva was elected and Mike Johnson has still refused to seat her, unlike in past cases where he swore in new members within 24 hours.

Also, release the damn Epstein files already.

That means his net worth has gone up by $100 billion in less than a year.

Remember that this is what the Trump-Republican big, ugly bill was all about. It's Robin Hood in reverse.

Why would any Democrat vote for a continuing resolution that greenlights this regime's cruelty?

CEO pay is up 1,094% since 1978, while worker pay is up just 26%.

Why do we always hear "we can't afford to pay our workers more" but never "we can't afford to pay our CEO more"?

I find it weird that people are painting Mamdani as an extreme outsider.

The US govt. has taken ownership positions in major US companies like Intel (and soon TikTok).

Mamdani wants to open a city-run grocery store to sell cheap groceries.

And you're telling me the second is a radical socialist.

The second richest man on earth is about to be a major owner of TikTok.

The third richest man owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

The last political column I was allowed to write in the @washingtonpost.com was a criticism of Obama.

His people took issue with my piece, but we were respectful.

Now he is tweeting in support of me.

This is how free political speech and respect for debate *actually works*.

Or used to work.

Indeed. Canceling Jimmy Kimmel, going after universities, and occupying DC were all about consolidating power through naked authoritarianism. It's the tried and true fascist playbook.
Canceling Jimmy Kimmel show is not about Charlie Kirk, just like going after universities was not about antisemitism and occupying DC was not about fighting crime.
