It was inevitable, I think, that I would seek out televised figure skating after the Olympics.

I am not loving those times, but I *do* have fond memories of getting up crazy early to watch indy racing with my grandpa, so maybe wrecking my sleep will be fun? 😀

If you don't know American figure skating Olympic gold medalist Alysa Liu's backstory, this is a pretty good 2 minute summary.

At home sleep apnea test tonight.

It has a belt that goes around my chest, a little box attached, a nasal cannula, and a pulse ox. Easy peasy in comparison to the last time I had a sleep test done - 30 years ago.

I could write a horror short story about that experience, hah. Maybe I will.

Eric Dane has passed away at 53 after a short battle with ALS

He will be remembered by many as McSteamy on Grey’s Anatomy, but he should also be remembered for his disability advocacy

He worked tirelessly to raise awareness for ALS, including how hard it is to get a diagnosis.
Eric Dane, 'Grey's Anatomy' star and ALS awareness advocate, dies at 53
Eric Dane, the actor known for “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Euphoria,” has died at 53 due to ALS. His representatives say he died on Thursday afternoon.

Why anxiety sucks, a short and terrible poem:

I wanted to do something fun
but then I had an anxiety attack.
it was bullshit and now I am exhausted.

no bird zoom.

just tea and pity and maybe some ice skating replays.

In less than an hour, I'll be watching a Zoom presentation on Arctic Terns by Dr. Mark Mallory.

Here's his website: www.mallorylab.com/about

I am stoked. I love listening to people talk about the science they are passionate about, especially when it overlaps with my passions. ❤️

Forgot my binoculars at home. Going birding after my appointment anyhow! Look out, ducks, I'm coming to admire you!

I am the weirdo on the bus, sitting at the back squealing with glee while watching the last skates of the day.

What a show.

Alysa was my favorite before the Olympics started, and she still is. What a fun person she is! What a beautiful skater! What a class act!

The amount of men (and some women sigh) calling the women "girls" in their amateur commentary is irking me.

They are women so please don't refer to them as children. It's so rude. We aren't calling the men "boys" now are we?

Yet again, I have to stop watching skating to go to an appointment. I have a lengthy bus commute, so I think I'm going to finish watching it on my phone on the bus.

I think I am addicted, heh.

Today's #BirdOfTheDay - #BranchBirds

This is a lovely female Red-winged Blackbird, taken July 2021 at Sechelt Marsh.

I just tricked myself into eating a pile of green veggies.

The trick was cheese, folks. Just cheese.

Oh, and since I never post selfies, here's one of me. I am squinting because it is so *bright* in a snow-covered backyard.

See, mom, I *am* alive!

It is SNOWING here.

Our first winter snow day!

Tino is thrilled. And therefore so are we!

I just realized that my upcoming nerve surgery scar is going to run right through one of my tattoos. Sigh.

Also: I have a migraine. See you in a few hours or days, depending on how long this one knocks me around for!

And now I am early for #BirdOfTheDay due to staying up late, haha. So this is for tomorrow: #PeacefulSolitude. And yes, it is a heron again, but I can't think of a much more peaceful bird (when it is not stabbing a fish anyhow hah).

As difficult as this was to read in this format (until I figured out the alt text for the 1st image has all the words), I really loved this poem. It feels very apropos of this moment for me.

Late on today's #BirdOfTheDay - #CollectingFood

I don't have a lot of photos of birds eating, but I did find this so-so shot of a Great Blue Heron catching a fish. It also fits the alt theme, which is #Grey.

THE BC BUDGET IS OUT!

The B.C. government is projecting a $13.3 billion deficit for the upcoming fiscal year, and announced a series of tax increases, job cuts and project delays.

Here are five things you need to know.

OF COURSE I missed Alysa Liu's skate. Stupid therapy appointment.

I don't even know why I turned it back on. It's going to be so nice to watch from start to finish when it's over.

*sigh* *turns skating off*

I'll be sulking over here until it's done.
February 17, 2026 at 9:43 PM
Ditto.

Thank the heavens for CBC Gem and their excellent non-live viewing options.
I stupidly made an appointment for the middle of the women's free skate several months ago before I realized they conflicted, and only connected the two a few days ago, so I am going to miss a few groups on the ice, unfortunately.
