by embracing preparedness, you are building mental and physical resiliency for yourself and your community.

agency is, essentially, the opposite of trauma. creating plans and taking steps towards those plans is, in some ways, more important than actually succeeding at those plans. always be trying.

this doesn't get you through "the end of the world," this gets you through minor supply chain disturbances.

this is the list I gave a friend with a family in the suburbs who previously just assumed they could die in the apocalypse but now has a family to care for

you can and should later expand

if you, for whatever reason, decided to start some basic home preparedness today, and can only get to a few stores, here's what I'd tell you to get:

-walkie talkies for everyone in your family
-little portable power packs, one per phone
-a print road atlas

palestinians are under siege again and begging for their lives and bluesky just keeps going delete delete like it's some kind of fucking game
I’m not like a social media expert but I feel like if Bluesky didn’t keep deleting Palestinian accounts and forcing them to recreate them and rebuild their support networks while starving and dying in a warzone there might not be as much “spam”. This site’s actions are racist and cruel. Fuck you.

so, you can't just like own a home, and live in it for free with no mortgage even and just have it because it's yours. nope

not even if you inherited it. you have property taxes and if you do not pay them, the state will take your home and you will become homeless

america, land of the free y'all

We’ve got a friend in Wisconsin who said she wasn’t worried about potential cuts to Medicaid because she and her 3 kids don’t need it - they’re on BadgerCare. She was stunned when I told her they were all on Medicaid.

Protecting people from shame by renaming MA has definite downsides.
Why haven't we seen more backlash against the GOP's proposed cuts to Medicaid? One reason is that people may not know they're on Medicaid, because Medicaid has different names in different states (see 🧵). Another is that some people may not realize that they (or their kids) could qualify.
Many Medicaid recipients do not know they receive it because Medicaid is called different things in different states. The public narrative of Medicaid focuses on a distant other, but 40% of US children and 60% of nursing home residents receive Medicaid. Just SOME of the names by state are below:
