by embracing preparedness, you are building mental and physical resiliency for yourself and your community.

agency is, essentially, the opposite of trauma. creating plans and taking steps towards those plans is, in some ways, more important than actually succeeding at those plans. always be trying.

this is the list I gave a friend with a family in the suburbs who previously just assumed they could die in the apocalypse but now has a family to care for

-big ole thing of sugary drink powder
-check what OTC meds you are low on, get those (don't go overboard here)
-instant coffee
-print out directions to and from family members houses
-if you can find it, a crank radio [i feel like walmart might sell these?]

-about 2x the number of cans you'd normally buy of food you normally eat
-pack of paper plates and disposable silverware
-a couple gallons of water per person
-big bag of pet food per pet
-big ole bag of rice, lots of beans, lentils, split peas
-big jar of peanut butter
-box of protein bars

so, you can't just like own a home, and live in it for free with no mortgage even and just have it because it's yours. nope

not even if you inherited it. you have property taxes and if you do not pay them, the state will take your home and you will become homeless
