Fuck this garbage. Think of all the talented artists in Glasgow who you could have chosen from to get a payday from this gig instead of the money being handed over to a slop merchant.
NEW: Glasgow City Council has just approved a massive AI-generated mural to be painted in the city centre.

The illustration of Scottish elements inexplicably contains a bald eagle.

The planner says those upset about it are "keyboard warriors" who should "calm down"

This is an excellent analogy, because my recollection from grade school is that the pen on the right looks fun and exciting, and then you play with it for a few minutes and realize it's not actually useful for anything and in fact makes some tasks more cumbersome, and never think about it again.
yeah, just out of interest, how many people choose the pen on the right for real work or art? See a lot of them in professional workplaces, do you?

This is wonderful - a conversation between two of my favourite writers on one of the most important topics (or confluence of topics) for all of us right now.
Deeply grateful to @orionmagazine.bsky.social for giving @alexismarieadams.bsky.social and myself the opportunity to have a conversation about borders, belonging, writing, rivers, grief and resistance, as well as our shared love for the more-than-human world.

Book of the year 3.
Beautifully written combination of memoir, history, and nature, set where mountains, countries and lakes meet in Northern Greece.
With bears and pelicans too.
I had to take this opportunity to boost with the American edition on the way.

The collective noun is a loveliness of ladybirds - which we think fits perfectly! Do you agree?

It’s thought that the recent influx of insects is due to warm weather and abundance of aphids - good news for gardeners, as ladybirds are a natural pest control!

Have you seen any ladybirds recently? 🐞

People ask why there are not more Bert stories

It’s simple. Bert is real, & whilst it would be easy to make stuff up, that’s not what this is about

Bert is still moulting, so here he is on our roof from a while back singing his evening repertoire, as taken my my son Oliver

Most birds have a favourite branch, but what happens when that branch breaks?

Most birds may give it a cursory glance before choosing a new favourite

Bert is not ‘most birds’

Bert eyes it on the ground, & flies down & sits on it. Almost like he is saying goodbye

The Narta Lagoon on Albania‘s Vjosa River Delta, where I traveled last month for the NYT. The Narta is a vital stopover for 1,000s of migratory birds, yet an airport is being built there, a luxury resort is being planned there. Until recently, it was a protected area, prized for its biodiversity.

The tide had dropped & still falling, exposing wet soil along edges of the Foveran Burn.
