Jeffries: "The border is secure. That's a good thing. It happened on his watch. He wants to claim credit for it, of course he'll get credit for that. In terms of making sure that we actually deal with the issues that matter, including on immigration, there's a lot that's left to be desired."

Some thoughts on the CR/minibus.

1 The Dems negotiating with Rs were not freelancing. They coordinated with Sen Schumer. A few were ready to give in on day one, others worked to maximize appropriations wins.

Those voting for the 'deal' are the ones furthest away from electoral consequences.

He can't do it. He literally cannot even make a soft endorsement of the next mayor of NYC on the day of the election. When the choice is between the Democratic candidate, a sex pest running a sore-loser run that's been endorsed by Donald Trump and Curtis Sliwa?
Q: It's election day in NYC. Did you vote for Mamdani or Cuomo?

Schumer: "Look, I voted, and I look forward to working with the next mayor to help NYC."

It is the Republican gospel that cities are full of homeless people, drugs and are crime-ridden hellholes on fire. Pointing out the stats that crime is down will do nothing. They will handwave it away because it goes against their worldview.
Trump mentions NYC, Baltimore, and Oakland, says "they're so far gone," and adds, "this will go further. We'll starting very strongly with DC."

The Tea Party protests in April 2009 had about a third of a million people involved, and the political media treated it like a game changer for the Obama presidency.

The No Kings rallies were AT LEAST ten times bigger than the Tea Party protests. Will the press keep pretending Trump is popular?
Based on crowd-sourced records of No Kings Day event turnout, and extrapolating for the cities where we don't have data yet, it looks like roughly 4-6 million people protested Trump across the U.S. yesterday. That's nearly 2% of the U.S. pop!

Mobilized anti-Trump resistance is exceeding 2017 levels
"No Kings Day" protests turn out millions
Our unofficial estimate is that around 4 million people attended a protest event yesterday. Anti-Trump resistance is outpacing 2017.

the democratic party - like on most issues - needs to actually stand for *something* on immigration. right now its a mush of poll tested shit and gop lite. the public can see that from a mile away and its a turnoff.

stand FOR things and the opinion will follow. path to citizenship, etc
We need a better discourse around public opinion on immigration. Quality polling reveals that it's self-contradictory: Voters want mass deportations until they're offered more nuanced options. Why? Here's a theory: Most voters above all want a system that works. 5/
