Canada has always been in the position of being one of the greatest beneficiaries of American hegemony, while always being acutely aware that it has one single hyperpower neighbour that is an existential threat to its continued existence as a sovereign entity if things turn ugly.
Carney: "American hegemony in particular helped provide public goods, a stable financial system... this bargain no longer works. Let me be direct. We are in the midst of a rupture, not a transition... recently, great powers have begun using economic integration as a weapon. Tariffs as leverage ... "

Whether you are Ukraine or Denmark, it is imaginable that your leaders might decide to trade territory for security, though this would be a fraught & potentially unwise choice. It seems far less plausible to trade territory for wobbly commitments from unreliable actors.

The best way to think of how Trump would "invade" Greenland is Putin's "little green men" annexation of Crimea. The US military would simply deploy more troops to its base there, and then one day they'd raise the US flag over the capital.

1/x
If Trump invades Greenland, the Europeans won't fight back, Republicans will defend it, Democrats will issue statements, there will be protests, and most Americans will disapprove of it enough to earn Democrats a bit more of the vote in November. Then on to the next thing.
More than an attempted coup, where a mob tried to seize Congress on live television did? There's not going to be an implosion about anything. It's either a slow slide towards oblivion where everything gets incrementally worse as people try to live normally, or a slow grind in the opposite direction.
