I’ve been thinking about this more. People seem baffled that others choose AI over other humans to confide in. But ask yourself why. We’ve got a performative “be kind” culture, an increasingly toxic online environment, and our social care and mental health services are chronically underfunded.
I shall go against the majority view and say they can be beneficial, for those who feel they cannot “really be me” with anyone, AI can provide a good sounding board.
The dangers are there, but I think it is a knee-jerk reaction to instantly dismiss the potential.
