If there were ever a time to keep pressing, it's now that we've seen the issue budge

On bsky they get the data for free
BlueSky: Trans person makes a joke replying to Jake Tapper, immediately illustrated by comic artist, liked by AOC. Everything gets nine likes.

Threads: Ellen DeGeneres hosts a rap battle between Frito-Lay and Cheez-Its riddled with "chedda," avoiding hard-R. The CIA buys all the data.

Yup Facebook/Meta is now making a client. Instagrams twitter thing mentions being able to access mastodon. No reason why Bsky AT protocol won’t be supported imo. Much more potential for AT to get users.

Hi! We appreciate everyone's enthusiasm in sending invitations, but our current policy is that we cannot accommodate heads of state to join us in our beta yet. This applies to recent/prominent heads of state as well.

We appreciate notice before you invite prominent figures at support@bsky.app.

I am worried it is a panopticon from hell. People’s personal accounts should not have public blocklists. Imagine the Timnit Gebru discourse
if this was public. I.e. 40%+ of AI twitter just blocked her.
The morality of this hinges entirely on if this dynamic unfolds in a permissionless, decentralized ecosystem or not. If not, this is a panopticon from hell. If so, it’s humans humaning, letting the meta-marketplace of ideas wind its way to truth and new norms.

If you're engaging in duplicitous, bad faith, or just poor comprehension and attacking people, it's important to understand that the net effect of that in the long haul is a full analysis of your written work (by AI) and an inductive reach cap that will be synthesized from sentiment of your labels.

Kinda liberating to only have 100 followers here. Gonna share all my least popular opinions.

1) Chumbawamba are the greatest punk band of all time

2) Censorship is pretty much always bad

3) Leninism is not as cool as you think it is

4) James Joyce is the horniest poet

5) Cake is bad and gross

Apparently there is a proposal to make .COM significantly more subject to complaints and unilateral arbitrary action, which is worrying.

DNS, especially historical roots like .COM, are really one of the last ~sorta~ unmoderated registries for unique identifiers. Unless there's a court order for CSAM/piracy or trademark, you mostly just need to pay the registration each year and it won't be adjudicated to someone else.

I wrote 230 to democratize speech and this app is a great example of why it’s so important

There is this perverse phonemena where the leading pack of the blob has joined, scarred from their experience of Facebook in the mid 2010s - and they’re at once shrieking about moderation and trying to lovebomb Bsky team.

For a few people it maybe. Stepping out of the walled algo garden is a major benefit imo. This isn’t to the benefit of fringe viewpoint holders like yourself and Nazis.

When we used to have vigorous debate on message board pre 2010 our culture/politics was less toxic.

Note ofc way less moderation
Lol @ anyone thinking the key to social media is decentralization paradigms, self verification through adding metadata to a personal server, or data portability.

It’s the harassment, stupid.

People just want to interact with others without assholes.

Let the grift begin.
2/ Obviously after Gamergate, I’m extremely interested in trust and safety policy. And after running for United States, Congress, and running a SuperPAC for several years - I have a unique set of skills that would be helpful for such an operation. I also have credibility.

Seeing the warring tribes principally one group calling others Nazis made me wish for twitters ability to wall off warring tribes with the algo.

On the other hand hasn’t this made the problem worse? In the past there was more of this kind of clashing pre algogarden and politics was less divisive.

it’s a bad sign on one level. A good sign in that the urge for these people for total control is going to lead to stasis which is bad for the systems long term survival.

What I dislike about bsky/AT protocol is the way it’s so easy for randoms to just hover up the info from firehose.

On twitter who has that level of access? The government and hedge funds.

I feel like I should be more careful in what I say due to this.

Bulk follows from API users also annoying.
May 1, 2023 at 12:35 AM
*screams internally* Marc andreessen already said in a clubhouse about pressure coming down to censor, a protocol and perhaps device level. bsky/AT may create the crisis to get us protocol level censorship.

Was the former President a nazi? Should speech on the internet be 1st amendment issue?
I just want a place to poast and roast without a) nazis and b) the New York Times writing an editorial about it like “aoc said nazis are bad. Is she wrong? We went on a diner date with harlan crow’s PR guy to find out”

You needed blocks. We cleared our calendars to finish building out blocks.

Blocking has shipped to Bluesky web app users and will be available in mobile shortly (version 1.25, when it passes App/Play Store review — hopefully tomorrow morning).

You can access this feature now at staging.bsky.app.
