Happy New Year, everyone
I've always thought that Victorian and Regency writers were the best writers on grumpiness
Found an additional graphic that gets even more of these quotes together.

I've kept "I hate myself, I hate clover, and I hate bees" pinned above my desk since I first started studying evolutionary biology as an undergraduate. So relatable to get extremely frustrated with your study system.

Something I keep asking.
One thing I don't get are the academics who would praise Epstein's intellect, even now. I honestly didn't see it. Even on just two minutes acquaintance, he seemed like a standard fast-talking charlatan, someone who trotted out lots of big words with no real understanding. A very common type.

Jon lived down the street and around a couple of corners from where I grew up in South Hobart. I like to think this is that street; that view is so familiar to me, ingrained in my consciousness as home. We talked about Tassie a lot.
Another Kudelka classic.

HOT BRIGHT MASSIVE YOUNG THINGS
#NASAWebb uncovered the full population of brown dwarfs (objects more massive than Jupiter but smaller than stars) in star cluster Westerlund 2. Many of our Milky Way galaxy's hottest, brightest, and most massive stars also exist in this region.

ANCIENT BIN CHICKEN ALERT
Just in time for #FossilFriday, meet Rhynchaeites mcfaddeni, a little fossil ibis from the Green River Formation. The holotype looks delightfully like a hieroglyph!

"TASMANIA: IT'S AWFUL. DON'T COME HERE" - @kudelka.bsky.social
Had this happened to me when I moved to Baltimore. Less expensive housing than anywhere in DMV area, beautiful historic architecture, amazing restaurants, wonderful theater options, walkable city. Fine then. Don’t come.

I am saving this video because every year in Entomology class I have to explain that "short-tongue bees", while a taxonomic classification, don't actually have short tongues as we'd think of them. (It's just the tip that's short).

Anyway, it's a female sweat bee evaporating down nectar.
Sounds about right. I mean, I’m not even a bug person but somehow get 500 results when I search “bug” in my iPhone photos. Here’s one of my weird bug moments. Look at him working those mouthparts!

Honestly @thermofishersci.bsky.social, how can it take four tries before you allow a callback message and how on earth do you have 22-36 people ahead of you in the queue? That is pretty terrible customer service
