Transiting through Auckland today, inshallah. Maybe should have just booked Qantas to fly direct but it seemed like a great idea at the time. That and booking this flight instead of the one due to depart in half an hour just in case we got delayed by snow

THERE’S A DOG ON THIS FLIGHT
December 6, 2025 at 7:33 PM
I caught this morning morning's minion, king-
dom of daylight's dauphin, dapple-dawn-drawn Falcon, in his riding

No wonder of it: shéer plód makes plough down sillion
Shine, and blue-bleak embers, ah my dear,
Fall, gall themselves, and gash gold-vermilion

Glory be to God for dappled things –
For skies of couple-colour as a brinded cow;
For rose-moles all in stipple upon trout that swim;

All things counter, original, spare, strange;
Whatever is fickle, freckled (who knows how?)

One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

I cannot rest from travel: I will drink
Life to the lees:
.. Come, my friends,
'T is not too late to seek a newer world.
Push off, and sitting well in order smite
The sounding furrows; for my purpose holds
To sail beyond the sunset, and the baths
Of all the western stars, until I die.
Which lines of poetry live rent-free in your head?

This is the largest known retrogressive thaw slump in the world (Yakutia)! 🧊🔥

It exposes a remarkable sequence of Ice Age permafrost that record interaction of colluvial/eolian/periglacial processes on a hillslope episodically forested during last 650 ka! 😲

Thought I’d finish out a month of Alaska Native-created books with my favorite Indigenous book illustrator - my dad.

These are two self-published projects I collaborated with him on and I love that I’m still able to share his work like this, months after he passed.
