This is the sort of statement that was expected from every university president and law firm partner over the last year. That those statements weren’t made played a huge part in where we are now and people will remember.

Neurodivergence committee in my brain finally accepted the request for a BTVS (which I still love as the work of many people) rewatch and I think I just need to accept that some part of my brain will always be in “action-horror-comedy ensemble story with world-ending stakes”

LRP I think if you are writing fiction, narrative momentum is key in almost every genre. If you don’t want conflict, you need to have something really good to replace it with to maintain that momentum.

I think of conflict as any challenge, friction, or contest, whether it's between people or between people and their surroundings. I don't really go for hard rules, but most stories are improved by meaningful conflict and weakened by its absence, because conflict is a way of exposing the truth.
How do you define "conflict" in fiction? Do you think fiction needs conflict?

theres so much horrible shit about the murder of renee good, but there is something deeply terrifying about the way everyone from media to politicians have erased her wife from the story. ive seen far more mention of her late husband than her wife who was sitting next to her when she was murdered
