Big Lotto jackpots brought in normies, but many Pick 3/4/5 were addicts who’d hand me long lists of their numbers to punch in every day. Hundreds of dollars. They were superstitious. Combos like 7777 would sell out! Some asked for my birthday so they could play it. I started saying no. It was sad.

Apologies if this sounds rather basic and/or "partisan," but I really think a minimum requirement for people in positions of political power should be that they possess a sense of decency that is within normal parameters. Don't need saints - just not the kinds of entitled monsters the GOP elevates.
This is some genuinely psycho shit...

If you sell lottery to the public, in an hour you’ll see it for what it is: state-sponsored racketeering, preying on the have-nots. It’s financial assault, and gov’t shouldn’t be involved at all. In the 90s, Keno was controversial in Maryland due to frequency and location (bars). How far we’ve come.

I worked in a liquor store in college and had to work the lottery machine. God, do I have stories. It radicalized me because it was one of the most miserable and depressing things I’ve ever done, and that was 30 years ago. What’s going on now is a thousand times worse.

Have you heard the Virtute The Cat saga? I occasionally listen to these songs and the second one (“Virtute Explains Her Departure”) always chokes me up. Fans of The Weakerthans / Jon Samson had the gift of hearing this saga slowly unfold over the course of 13 years / 3 albums. youtu.be/8zYG186spkY

This. The numbers are hard to wrap one’s head around. $1 billion = $1,000 million. If I invested $1 billion and got a 7% return, that’d be $70 million, about $190K per day. These people float above us on a cloud of obscene exploitative wealth. They do nothing and it compounds.

When he was 4 I told my son that anybody can love anybody. I was stumped though (and also impressed) when he asked me, “how come some things are things and some things aren’t things?”

Bullshit. Here’s a real-life anecdote. My wife’s a native Spanish speaker, so our American-born son is fluent. Last year, when he was five, he helped a fellow non-English-speaking kindergarten classmate acclimate by speaking with her in Spanish. It made her feel welcome and my son felt awesome.

You don’t need to be a parent to be horrified by this, but Christ, as the father of a boy the same age as Maria, it’s soul-scarring. They’re annihilating these kids. I wish we could extract their collective fear and despair and cram it into Stephen Miller’s brain so he’d never know peace.

“Trump…doesn’t need to send thousands of troops into the streets. He could maybe get a search warrant and try and seize ballot boxes. Once those ballots are out of the control of election officials, we’ve lost the chain of custody. We can’t be confident that the election results would be accurate.”
Here's @rickhasen.bsky.social detailing the scenario in which Trump uses search warrant to seize ballot boxes in a contested 2026 locale. This is more worrisome than ICE at the polls. Hasen also suggests ways to act against this now.

It's harrowing stuff:

When I contemplate Trump’s death, I think of despised industrialist George Pullman, famous for his Chicago company town, black “Pullman Porters,” paid only in tips, and deadly strike-breaking.

Love how when she is unable to destroy these peoples’ lives, she pivots to trying to sUpErViSoR him out of his job. My son goes to school with kids of unknown status and I’d fast-track residency/citizenship for all of those families in exchange for jettisoning garbage people like this.
