We sold a house this year and made a larger than expected gain (though still modest, really). It felt like a weird loophole to receive it tax free when we pay tax on all other income... CGTs are normal and Aotearoa should introduce one as part of a broader move to make our tax system more equitable!

The results in my neck of the woods are baaaad (if you're someone with progressive values and a vision beyond "rates should be lower") and to make it worse, several of the successful candidates have indicated that they will push for a change from STV to FPP at the electoral review this term.

Absolutely gutted about local results in my area. Some real talent lost from the council, a mayor and deputy who will most likely have the votes to slash and burn, fewer women, and an end to Māori wards. 😥🫤😠
