We have strength across a wide range of neuroscience topics, including ageing and development, brain injury and repair, cognition and behavior, mental health, RNA science, etc.
To clarify, the QBI Director need not be focused on Dementia, this just happens to be one of the sites where the recruiter has posted….

Understatement!
Interesting!

And another interesting paper from Bonasio lab @upenn.edu www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1... "Pseudouridine selects RNAs for extracellular transport" noting among other things "..that MYL6 is a pU-binding protein required for secretion of RNAs." notable MYL6 is found in the Kossiakoff work as a csRBP!

Future thinking.
For obvious reasons, I've become fascinated with retrotransposons. So we ( @alexwhiteley.bsky.social and I) wrote an article now out in Neuron @cellpress.bsky.social on how we think retrotransposons influence brain function and health! kwnsfk27.r.eu-west-1.awstrack.me/L0/https:%2F...

… plants and infecting fungi can use packets of havoc-wreaking RNA as a form of coevolutionary information warfare: An enemy cell reads the RNA and builds self-harming proteins with its own molecular machinery.
Cells Across the Tree of Life Exchange ‘Text Messages’ Using RNA | Quanta Magazine
Long known as a messenger within cells, RNA is increasingly seen as life’s molecular communication system — even between organisms widely separated by evolution.

Nowadays, too many institutions thinking ‘if we build it they will come’ combined with a shortsighted research funding model, a saturated Phd training sector, bloated admin load, and a general decline in creativity. Tough times indeed!
Sometimes I think about how from 1935-1975ish, Bell Labs produced an insane amount of revolutionary science and technology, including 11 Nobel Prizes, the transistor, UNIX, C, the laser, the solar cell, information theory, etc. The secret? Provide scientists with ample, steady, no-strings funding.

Occasional PSA:

Intracellular molecular processing, especially in neurons, is not about differential RNA expression or even protein abundance for that matter. Not about quantity.

It’s about qualitative, functional states.

The sooner we get there as a community the faster the science advances
