She's right. The gradual closing of the internet with "save the children" as a wedge issue is progressing and will only serve authoritarians.
We need more political organization around these issues - not just targeting Discord, but targeting the governments that encourage and enable this behaviour.

I’m glad to see people protesting Discord forcing IDs for age verification, but what I need everyone to understand is that there’s immense bipartisan pressure to make the entire internet like this, and they are likely going to succeed unless something drastic happens

Discord isn't walking back anything yet, but this shows they are feeling the pressure and you should keep bullying and contacting them until they relent.
Discord is already starting to walk things back a little, so people should keep doing what they're doing (cancel Nitro, leave feedback/criticism, direct contact through support tickets/phone/email/etc)

I think the other reason the ID push pisses me off is I also want children to be safe, and I am simply not at all convinced making the internet a panopticon achieves that goal

For those who are from California, contact your AG. Forcing people to show their IDs which would later be stolen when the site gets hacked (again)?! What Discord is doing is beyond stupid and dangerous.
It could be really bad for Discord if Californians contact the office of the Attorney General to report the potential violations of CCPA and CALOPPA citing the recent breach from a few months back where 1.5tb of user data and millions of IDs were leaked, but who can say for sure?
