The right sets the terms of our political discourse in so many ways, one of which is the idea that there isn't enough "debate" and "free speech" on campus.

We need to push back on this. The truth is (speaking for myself as a history prof), I don't really emphasize debate much in my classes/

putting aside the trans rights issues specifically (lol), I think part of what has me so frustrated with the Newsom thing is that Pritzker, Walz, and Zohran are putting on clinics for a popular, progressive politics and we’re wasting time talking about this used car salesman ass goblin.

I was in front of the federal building when this happened and while I admittedly wasn’t at the front of the line closest to the cops, I didn’t hear a dispersal order. We just saw people starting to run towards us followed by cops on horses and cops shooting munitions of some kind.
Los Angeles police used tear gas and crowd-control munitions to break up protests after issuing a 4 p.m. dispersal order for downtown, where a major demonstration against the Trump administration gave way to another night of smaller but raucous protests against recent immigration raids.

Melissa Hortman, who was assassinated last night, was the Speaker of the Minnesota House in the 2023-2024 session, when Democrats ran the state government.

That means she had a leading role in shepherding the many landmark reforms that Dems adopted in that period—an important legacy. Brief 🧵.

Kristi Noem: "We are not going away. We are staying here to liberate the city from the socialists and the burdensome leadership that this governor and that this mayor have placed on this country and what they have tried to insert into the city."

Sen. Alex Padilla is then forcibly removed!

My neighbor still has an Irish flag up from St Pattys. There are Ukrainian flags peppering my town. If someone sees a Mexican flag at a protest and goes well
I guess I support renditions to foreign gulags now, they were not persuadable to begin with, and insisting they are is part of how we got here

NEW: A federal judge raised alarm Friday that the Trump administration appeared to have deported a 2-year-old U.S. citizen to Honduras with "no meaningful process" — even as her father was fighting to keep her in the country.

Some personal news: the Department of Homeland Security has given me, an immigration lawyer born in Newton, Massachusetts, seven days to leave the U.S. Does anyone know if you can get Italian citizenship through great-grandparents?

I worry this ruling will get SCOTUS headlines like “SCOTUS STANDS UP TO TRUMP!” But unless and until they ensure that the admin will make meaningful efforts - and really interrogate claims that admin can’t make it happen - I think people need to stay focused on this, demand return, & apply pressure

Unidentified men grabbing someone off the street and putting her in a car because she wrote an op-Ed. This as flatly authoritarian as anything we’ve seen in this country in a very long time.
Video of the international student at Tufts being arrested by "federal authorities" in Massachusetts has been released and it's terrifying.

They're not even uniformed officers. Just secret police thugs in hoodies and masks.

The American right and much of the rest of the spectrum actually hates underdogs only second to vulnerability; many Americans will watch Trump berate Zelenskyy and think he deserves it *because* he is a victim of Putin.

OK honest question what is the root of this? Is this just how you think on drugs?

Nobody elected Musk — this is illegal and corrupt and we will keep fighting it.

Senator Andy Kim just said at JHU SAIS that he is shortly walking to a couple of blocks to US-AID and ask "what in God's name is happening." In his words, friends and allies are asking "If the White House is going to just dismiss part of the government, what are they going to do to us?" Applause.
