“Have Yourself A Merriam Little Christmas”

Merriam, a career-oriented lexicographer from the city, returns to her small town for the holidays and meets Webster, a ruggedly handsome librarian, who shows her the true DEFINITION of Christmas.

Hi everyone! We are putting together a mini-series on cancer, from the history to the biology to the concept of cancer as a disease. We are looking for people willing to share your experience with cancer - whatever that may mean to you.

Dear corporate BS writers, "to service the public" implies our jobs are much more exciting and better paid than in reality. Altho the level of WTF we encounter is probably not too dissimilar at times, albeit wildly different in type.

Hint: I did it in the browser rather than trying to hunt thru Android/Gmail options. Also, "smart features" is fairly accessible via Gmail on Android - not sure of the interaction between the settings, but I just got rid of each.
In other news, I am pleased Firefox is committing to AI OPTIONAL.

Literally visited his gravestone in the Bolton St cemetery in #Welly last weekend, as part of a tour for the Wellington Heritage Festival. Some really cool events - definitely worth checking out what might tickle your fancy wellingtonheritagefestival.co.nz

And if you have zero shots. Bizarrely, it was somewhat complicated to get the MMR fairly recently, since there is/was some policy that if you are born prior to 1970, you'd had the measles. I hadn't. I got my first vax when in Oz, then argued for the 2nd when I moved back to NZ.
I'm of the age where we only got 1 dose of measles vaccine at school. Last outbreak we had I went and got much delayed booster. Do consider doing the same if you only had one shot as kid.

If you're bougie enough to be in close proximity to any of the "elites" that think techbro merch is cool, you're bougie enough to buy these items. Less than 9 cm long, will fit into your pocket or bag. www.supremecommunity.com/season/itemd...

Dear "Australian Research Centre", if you're going to robocall me, maybe ensure the greeting your bot plays doesn't sound like it was recorded in a wind tunnel. I had to listen for nearly 10 sec before determining it was fine to hang up - seconds I could have spent on a sip of coffee!

Went into a bar to buy a half-pint of beer, only to be told "no". Apparently, for this boutique brewery's bar, it's pints or nothing. I normally drink pints, so I'll have to start checking out whether this is a thing across the board. If so, it sucks.

Stupid shit menopause does to you that no-one mentions, #48: you* can't even fucking whistle any more

Serious question: if a service provider sends you a PDF file *without* editable fields for you to provide them some info, how, exactly, do they expect people to do that? Go through the rigmarole I just did of converting to image so I could scribble on it? Or literally print it out and ...?

What also gets me about this kind of job/income erosion is that the said billionaires could earn MORE ridiculous profits from people with discretionary $$ to spend on their goods. Altho, with already-stratospheric incomes, maybe they're limiting supply for the merely-rich to harvest
GREAT LOVE IT.

(and if you can't feel the exceedingly strong amounts of sarcasm just dripping from those words, please know I hate everything about this and could probably vent about it for a while.)

FUND PUBLIC SERVICES. God this billionaire ran world is shit on steroids.

Small comfort in these days of "AI"/ various forms of machine learning, and the many years of metadata scrapings, that the Goog apparently don't know how unappealing this is to me on at least three levels

Helpful hint for anyone who doesn't get hiccups for literal decades, and who then gets stuck with a 15 min bout that feels like it'll last foreverrr - this works!
Basically, sit up straight, extend your neck upwards as far as you can and hold your breath as long as possible. Relief!

Time to hit mute on JK R*wling discourse. I never liked the books and I don't know why this woman's hateful views keep being platformed. We all know what she is now, I'm not interested in any further bile she has to spew.

Dear medical practice, thanks SO much - not - for the information that my awesome GP has returned to Canada permanently. You'd think that'd be something to mention to a GP's patients? Even more awesome there are no appts available with any of the other doctors there for about a month.

tbh reposting this on here (there aren't a lot of kids on here) feels a bit futile so I just want to champion Scarleteen as a really incredible accessible resource for kids seeking inclusive sex ed (+ other stuff re: teen safety) and if you can get it into the hands of kiddos now that'd be good
LGTBQ+ youth disproportionately experience homelessness compared to their straight and cis peers. In the US, up to 40% of unhoused youth identify as LGBTQ+.

That’s why this series was created - to provide support, essential tips, and resources to youth who are so often overlooked by the system.

Apparently our CEO/PM hasn't heard of the project management triangle, expressed in brief as: "Good, fast, cheap. You get two." I know which one *shouldn't* be sacrificed in a """representative democracy"""
(Since this stupidity is such a part of the RW playbook now, I'm sure they feel otherwise)
Hey Chris Luxon, maybe have a wee read of the Electoral Act 1993, s7 before trying to play the Big Business CEO, huh?

"The Electoral Commission must act independently in performing its statutory functions and duties, and exercising its statutory powers, under—
(a) this Act ..."
'Slowest folk on the planet': Luxon says he wants votes to be counted faster
The prime minister says he expects the Electoral Commission to speed up the official vote count after an election.

Lol yeah, I wonder if the OP has ever heard of Czechoslovakia, August 1968
i think that people were legitimately upset that the Soviet Union engaged in the brutal mass murder of revolutionary communists for failing to submit to the absolute domination of the Russian Empire (under new management)
I'm pretty sure "tankie" was just made up by the British "soft left" and MI5 to discredit the Communist Party of Great Britain for supporting the USSR and justify spending on the UK's own nuclear arsenal.

To me, this epitomises how awful the left can be at explaining issues. When I first heard the phase, I was like, "lol, we're not in utopia yet mate". But "invest more in social services and less in policing" is an understandable aim!
