Small comfort in these days of "AI"/ various forms of machine learning, and the many years of metadata scrapings, that the Goog apparently don't know how unappealing this is to me on at least three levels

Honestly, fuck Microsoft. Great big security hole in Server 2025 is partially fixed in Aug update. Ofc update KB articles no longer have useful summaries - good luck trawling dozens of CVEs for pertinent info. But all the AI updates are itemised ffs. Great use of screen real estate for critical info

For anyone who thought the current govt was was right to petulantly can Three Waters while refusing to help local bodies with their water maintenance burdens, I really, truly hope you're not now bitching about your rates bill and the privatisation of public liabilities

Well, their AI investment has paid off in one respect - hope it's worth the loss of institutional knowledge.
Given our experience of "Premier Support" lately, and their inability to answer or escalate questions about their own product capabilities, the answer is "No"

Apparently this IT company's "core competencies" don't include web design. Or design-design.

Altho not so much the double-breasted thing; I look like enough of an extra from The Killing of Sister George as it is. But the jacket cut is really nice and I love the trou (I'd need different colours, I'm totally a winter 💅)

That's great it can be done from an app. If you want to disable it completely, run CMD or Powershell or Terminal as Administrator. Then type/paste "reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsAI /v AllowRecallEnablement /t REG_DWORD /d 0" and hit Enter. Reboot, feature is gone.

Me: Been a few years since I played #SleepingDogs; it still slaps! ...it's been A DECADE?
(also, movie! Simu Liu!!!)

Today I needed a piece of wood 10 cm wide for a spacer. Headed to the scrap wood bin to find something to cut to size - this piece was sitting *right* on on top, no cutting required.
Best thing: I was *literallly* listening to a podcast on randomness and probability - universe 'avin a laff innit

I love Marina Hyde. She does *not* love the new Leader of the Free World and his "coalition of creeps"

Exactly what I said in my response to the insulting "survey" about any changes to how medications are prescribed to anyone, let alone the trans whipping boys (metaphorically speaking) in this political bullshit move

It's satisfying when you make a recipe and it turns out better-looking than the original (ok, I used spelt flour, bloomed the yeast with honey and warm water first, and did an actual knead rather than the multiple stretch-and-folds I'm too impatient for)

I take it back about the cocktail ginger - my recipe guess is 1 pt Bundy ginger beer, 1 pt creaming soda, 2 pts water, cocoa nibs. Sadly, I have a religious objection to gelatine in chocolate mousse. Both it and the "sponge" base were *bouncy*, in different ways

Sorry for bad (worse) focus. Potato pave - lukewarm = fine, cold around edges = meh. Pumpkin puree did actually taste of miso, a little underseasoned otherwise (like most of these dishes). Dry-aged duck = avg 17 chews per 2 x 2cm chunk. V little discernable "aged" flavour
December 25, 2024 at 8:28 AM
Soba w 1 Tbl crab and tempura w slightly stringy bean = fine. (I have seriously made a dashi for noodles that is at least as good)

Sushi was decent - real wasabi, and the pickled ginger wasn't out a bulk bag (I don't think) 🙂
December 25, 2024 at 7:48 AM
"Chirashi" - slightly better than St Pierre salmon salad - *slightly*. Cracker = limp.
December 25, 2024 at 7:32 AM
Disposable chopsticks FFS. There are these things called dishwashers.
Oyster - *sweet*. Maybe 10% discernable oyster.
Beef tataki, meh (I dont eat beef (there was about 1 tsp beef that didn't taste like beef - the cracker had more flavour)

Here is the menu, enhanced for your reading pleasure. So far, the bread tastes mildly sweet and slightly burnt, enough so that it overwhelms any potentially-discernable miso flavour
December 25, 2024 at 7:14 AM
If you're thinking, "I can't read that", nor could I, in the available lighting, with my reading glasses on. Also, WTF - but apparently there are no "masc" sakes, lol

Happy tomato bumblebee
(there are lots of baby tomatoes on the vines - these buzzers doing sterling pollination work)
